I’ve heard it said many times that people often struggle with their relationships with the Father due to relationship issues they’ve had with their earthly fathers. Some people also say they have trouble being as intimate in their relationship with Christ as they would like. I find myself wondering if the reason for this is that they have never truly known an intimate, healthy relationship with another person -

- Someone they trust absolutely
- Someone who would stand by them no matter what – better/worse/richer/poorer/sickness/health
- Someone who knew their faults and weaknesses, and loved them all the more for them
- Someone who loved them even when they were angry

God is faithful. God is the same yesterday, today and forever. He’s not like the person who expresses deep feelings for you one week, but loses you in the crowd the next week. He’s not like the person who runs at the first sign of difficulty. He’s not fickle. You can trust Him. Forever.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. – Hebrews 13:8

He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler. - Psalm 91: 4

Your mercy and loving-kindness, O Lord, extend to the skies, and Your faithfulness to the clouds. - Psalm 36: 5

God is faithful, and therefore ever true to His promise; by Him you were called into companionship and participation with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 Corinthians 1: 9

God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? – Numbers 23:19

I have experienced someone who expressed deep feelings for me, then took it away just to bring it back. Bouncing from love to rejection back to love. I would love for God to be the one who I feel love and no rejection from, to fill the hole it left in my heart. But I don't feel it. That has been my problem almost all my life. I'm not sure what its suppose to feel like, I understand the concept, I've read the scripture, I've heard other peoples opinions on how they feel God's love. But I don't know, its got to be personal. A feeling or an awareness I think, something that I could not feel from anyone or anything else. I dunno. This thread kind of hit a nerve, I think.

God wants us to feel His love more than we want to feel it..............I think a key is walking in the Spirit, I'm tired of leaning on my own understanding, so I want God to position me to receive a greater revelation of His love and presence. The Holy Spirit knows best the way to receive from Him, and He wants to get us there! So i'm seeing I don't want to learn head knowledge about God, but heart. If I know every scripture reference about love, and what it means in the original language it doesn't count for much if I don't experience it!

Sometimes our souls can get in the way, our spirit is renewed, but our soul is in a process of coming to terms with submitting to our spirit, which is controlled by the Holy Spirit. So like David, speak to your soul, soul you WILL praise the Lord, you WILL submit to the Holy Spirit, no matter how you feel.........

arwen, I absolutely agree, it does have to be personal.:) He knows what each of us needs and exactly where to meet us when we seek Him. He is like nothing else and no one else we will ever meet - so far above all we know. Like any relationship, we draw closer, we learn, we trust, we grow, and time makes it richer and deeper.

Ask Him. Trust Him. When our hearts/spirits respond to the wooing of His, it will happen.
