A few others I hear alot that drive me insane:

"Its a love war"
"The Holy Ghost got me good!" (I used to hear these at revival meetings when I was in my twenties!)
"God helps those who help themselves"
"God is my husband' (yes, I have heard this, many times - makes me want to gag!)
"You need a spiritual father or mother" (wow, sounds like some Jedi knight in training!)

I think all these trite expressions are mostly a result of churches no longer teaching any kind of critical thinking.

God gave us the example of the Bereans - people that listened to teachers, checked the scripture, and then used their brains to discern things. They actually practiced thinking.

These trite expressions seem like a symptom of people just turning their brains off.
People being encouraged to turn their brains off isn't new... but it's still damaging.

I think these says pop up for a few reasons. First, people are lazy on all fronts. Having a cute little saying makes them feel better and allows them to stay in denial. Second, the church has created "truths" in an effort to control people from the beginning. Now, I am not saying that all churches have done this, but it's well documented that churches have come up with lots of fun stuff to keep people in their place since the beginning. And finally, I think people don't study the word because it's a two edged sword. It creates change, it causes healing (which is mostly painful at first), it reminds us of our fallen state, it reminds us who God actually is-- not who we've made him out to be. So we have Christianese and weird/bad doctrines. It's one of the reasons that the Bible says to study and show yourself approved.

I've never heard most of these (but I guess I do live on an island, continent, country in the middle of the ocean. We're a primitive people). :p
