God certainly can talk to us through dreams, but so can our oppressor, as well as our own fertile imaginations - which express our inner desires and nature.

If the dream is about something I really want (apart from God), then I discount it.
If the dream is about something overly self centered or evil, then I discount it.
Does it involve a message for someone else, then I discount it.
If the dream is about something I would not have thought of in and of myself:

  • Is it Biblical without hedging?
  • Is it Biblical, discounting my understanding of the dream?
  • Could God be saying something but I might be misinterpreting?
  • Could God be saying something but I might be placing emphasis in the wrong place?
  • Is it ministry related?
  • In truth where is my standing with God at this exact moment?
  • Picking the most conservative friend, what is their opinion?
So, a fairly limiting list I put against my dreams. Why? Because I have friends whom are almost superstitious concerning dreams and I have seen them chase after some real disasters, believing they are doing what God told them to do.

Even if you believe you are cool with God, He may well not be with you or our life. I have a friend right now so whacked in their lifestyle that I can't see that they know my God at this moment in time and they are chasing a dream - which is really their will and not of God at all. Can't tell them anything but when the train wreck comes, I hope to hold their hand and point out what went wrong. Because they are going to be blaming God, again - and He is innocent of this one anyway.....

If a dream really stays on your mind, then ask God to give you understanding... IF it was from Him. He won't send you a message and leave you without a way to receive it. He might have you talk about it with a specific person. Or maybe it was just a dream, without any meaning. Ask Him.

Some are warnings.
Some help me to prepare for things to come.
Some edify and comfort.
Some serve as reminders of lessons He has taught me.

Hey whats wrong with my brain, I rarely ever remember my dreams. The only time I remember them seem to be when they deal with God actually. I had one once that was so very disturbing. It was like I was in this cave set up with occult crap. pentagram, a viper snake biting me over and over and over (didn't feel any of it) I remember in the dream I kept saying over and over "I chose God". Another dream I had was at a very dark valley time period of my life where I lived and breathed misery and heartache. I remember dreaming that I was lost in a very dark dark tunnel and I remember light coming out of the ceiling and then there was the hand of my God reaching down pulling me out of the darkness. It was so amazing. Any other dreams....I remember squat about them lol.

I used to have very vivid dreams in color. I remembered them well when I first awoke. Shortly after, I would start forgetting details. I haven't had these dreams since my ex-wife left last year.

Just the other night, I had a dream which presented a kind of split screen format with one dream on the left and a different one on the right. That's the first time for that. I don't know what was on the left. I remember my niece in the dream on the right. However, I was worried about her and I believe that is why I had that dream.

The dreams were in black and white. That is significant to me. I always dreamed in color.

I don't think any dream I had was inspired by God. At best, my mind was trying to process the worry I had about my niece. Like I said, I don't know what the dream on the left was all about. I don't remember it at all.

I don't interpret them. While its true God says He can use dreams, most Christians treat dreams like some sort of divination, always thinking every dream has meaning and wanting someone to divine the meaning. I'm not going to run around looking for signs, if God wants to speak to me through a dream verify His message.

Depends on the dream. I see most of mine as nothing more than the flights of fancy my mind takes while awake. I frequently lucid dream.

There are some dreams that are more than the mind continuing to work and communicate while one sleeps. Some are messages , others gives you glimpses into what is consciously unknown.

Interpretation of dreams is not something you learn. Rather, it is a gift from God.
