I see the word rumors and absolutely nothing is being said about my perfectly chiseled abs or my gun show, not to mention the fact that I like long walks on the beach and just spending time staying up late just to talk all about the other person...Lamest thread ever.

Sorry Kim :)
Hahahaha your gun show!

I clicked because I knew that Kim would not openly post a "HOT Rumor" in the Singles Forum, I would expect her to put it in the Christian News Forum... :p
I only clicked because it was started by you, Seoulsearch, and therefore knew there had to be a catch of somekind.
Well doggone it all... People are on to me!!!! :D I'm going to have to switch up my MOP a little bit... That's me, you know, wild and unpredictable all the way!!

And Ritter, I don't like to call it a "catch", but rather, "an interesting twist." ;)

You have to admit though, the answers are interesting. I mean... I wonder how many people would be willing to bet their soul or salvation on saying they didn't want to hear a hot rumor. :) I know I'D be in a lot of trouble, at least. :D

Sorry Kim :)
LOL. But Zao, we ALREADY KNOW about your prefect abs and (shot)gun show. People aren't interested in rumors about things everyone else already knows!! ;) (Which is why I didn't post about your overwhelming modesty either!!) :D J/K!!! *hugs*

I was just generally curious what this post was about. I never gave much thought to the 'hot rumor'. Knowing the way Seoul titles her posts i figured there was a point behind the title, not an actual pointless rumor.

Hey Kim, believe it or not I was listening to a christian radio station this afternoon and the pastor was talking about this exact same topic. He said that when we gossip or spread rumors we hurt two people; the one we are spreading rumors about, and ourselves. He said that we cheapen ourselves when we do it because the rumor is often exagerated or untrue so by spreading it we are telling lies, and so our credibility gets damaged as well as how others value us as a person. ;)

I thought it was some sort of joke and was expecting a punch line. Being a few days new to this site, I had no clue what to expect. I guess the joke was on me/us :).

Hey Everyone,

So I'm just curious. How many people can confess to clicking on this thread just because they wanted to read what the "hot rumor" was?

Admittedly, this thread is an experiment. I've seen lots of people write about the evils of gossip... So I was just curious as to how many people would see a title like this and want to know what the supposed rumor was, even on a Christian website. When given the chance to participate in gossip... what will people actually do?

I'm guessing that if someone is truly against gossip, they won't even bother clicking on the title and we won't even know who they are. Or will they say they did it in order to tell others how evil gossip is? (Um... ok...) Will people even admit to reading this thread?

Just curious. I'm always interested in what people say vs. what people actually do. And, for the record, if I hadn't written the thread, I would have clicked on it too.

(The poll is multiple choice and anonymous... But I'd love to know your thoughts on the subject as well. :))

Funny enough I was expecting it to be a survey on gossip :D though specifically stuff like how many people follow up on celeb gossip and stuff. So I clicked on this thread outta curiosity to see what all the thread contained (like people's opinions and Bible verses on it. I've read the verses on Gossip I was curious to see if anyone's posted 'em yet :)) :D

Gossip in any way, shape, or form, is damaging. You see it all around you just how damaging it can be. It can tear someone down in the matter of minutes. Some people might take drastic measures due to people gossiping about them. It's just NOT edifying first of, and it's NOT encouraging.

Proverbs 20:19
He who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets, Therefore do not associate with a gossip.

I clicked on it because I looked first to see who posted it and saw it was you Seoul and enjoy your posts. Secondly because I read pretty much every thread that is started even if I don't post in them. I did like the catchy title and it made me think that you were going to ask something about someone in the news who I wouldn't know about anyways being as I rarely watch t.v and couldn't tell you who 75% of the actors or actresses are at the moment.

To whomever it was who asked what is considered gossip, I know my pastor always said that anything you discuss about someone negative or positive without them being present is considered gossip.

Gossip

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gossip is idle talk or rumour about the personal or private affairs of others. It is one of the oldest and most common means of sharing facts, views and slander. This term is used pejoratively by its reputation for the introduction of errors and variations into the information transmitted, and it also describes idle chat, a rumor of personal, or trivial nature.

I am sorry, but I don't think I agree with what your pastor has said and I don't mean to turn this into a debate and I apologize if I offend you or anyone else. If you were to take it that far then there would be no way to avoid gossiping. You would not be able to share your day at work with your spouse nor would I be able to share about my day at school with my parents when they ask me how school went. As in the definition you have posted it states "Gossip is idle talk or rumors about the personal or private affairs of others." You can not know what someone else sees as personal or private. Even if they share something personal/private with you it would still be personal because the rest of the world would not know. Also my sentence about your spouses and my parents would be gossip because none of your spouses are present and my parents aren't. Sorry if I took what your pastor said too literal, but that is how it came across to me.

And I clicked here because I know this is a Christian site and I was curious as to why someone was posting a rumor, if it was indeed a rumor, and what the rumor was. As they say curiosity killed the cat!

Yes, as soon as I saw the title of this thread, I was salivating.
OHMAHGOSHGOSSIP?!

*clickity-click*

Honestly, I automatically assumed the title was misleading. I knew it wasn't going to be about gossip, because of how it was blatantly phrased to sound like it was. Cool thread though.

You in no way offended me. I do agree with your take on the fact that gossip would be almost impossible to ignore if we take it as literal as it is phrased in my post. I don't think he meant it as literal as that, but I do believe he said it so that we would keep in mind how easily a conversation such as just casually discussing your day at work can lead to gossip unintentionally.

I see your point how it can lead to gossip, but I was just checking to see how literal you(well your pastor) was meaning it to come across.
