LOL...Had a BF once that liked to dress up on Halloween. 39 year old dude dressed like bat man...just not cool around these parts :p

But to each their own, right.
The most I do for Halloween now is put on my ren faire stuff (Just a shirt with black pants and boots) I don't go all out I stopped that years ago.

See if I tried to not be like that though I would be unhappy. I am not going to stop doing what I do because someone does not agree with it. I have tried being a Christian to the T in the past and that just got bad for me.
Tried to be like what? I am not sure what you think I meant, but is does seem apparent that you misunderstood? I never suggested you give up what gives you pleasure. I said, the saying of just do whatever makes you happy, makes me leery. What if what made you happy was raping and murdering children? Some people do get off on that. I know that is not what you are into, and I don't mean to imply anything bad about you by saying that. It is just where "Do whatever makes you happy" can lead for some. I hope you better understand :)

Anne and Nancy Wilson seemed to be into the whole renaissance look thing for a while. It suited them to be all dressed up like that, and I have over the years seen quite a few pictures from weddings of people similarly decked out. There was even a band called Renaissance. Have you heard any of their music?

I got in trouble when I was 10 years old because I thought I was a grown up and I didn't want to dress up for Halloween. My mom made me and said it was because she didn't want me growing up to quick, but I still think she made me do it for the free candy...jk:p

I believe in do what you want with commonsense. Killing, for instance, would land you in jail obviously. I understood what you said before.

As to the music no I have not heard of them before so thanks for the info.

Problem is that common sense is dead. Here's his obit.

Obituary: The Sad Passing Of Common Sense

But yeah do what you enjoy (as long as it's renaisannce fairs, or geeky things, or other niche interests), because people aren't going to like you enough for doing what they want you do enjoy to make it worth doing .

All humans have 99% of the same DNA. If it was a sin to be different, then that would be massively unfair for all of us.

To the OP, and on the topic of being different...

*Lynx puts on his nerd glasses in preparation for pontification.

Mostly whether it is "bad" depends on why you are different. That's the short answer.

The long answer is, some people make a conscious effort to be different because they don't know who they are, but they don't want to be lost in the crowd because they are like everybody else. So they make an effort to be different, to do something, ANYTHING that will set them apart from everybody else and make them unique enough that everybody knows they are individuals. Some become class clowns, some get piercings and tattoos all over, some wear wild hair styles and colors - not because they like comedy, piercings, tattoos or outrageous hair, but because they are trying very hard to find things to have, be or do that will make them individuals. That is a bad reason to be different.

Some are different as an act of rebellion. They do things specifically because they were told they shouldn't, and by George nobody is going to tell ME what I can and cannot do! That is a bad reason to be different.

From the OP though, I get the feeling you are different for the same reason I am different. You have found things you enjoy, things that work well for you, things that are not exactly popular but you like them. Personally I wear toe shoes - not for the toes, but for the zero-drop ratio; I bake sourdough bread and I almost live off the stuff; I have the world's smallest android phone and I keep it on my shoulder where it plays music in one ear; I sometimes carry a can of corn, peas, whatever to work for lunch and eat it right out of the can when I'm on break; I do a few other things that people seem to consider weird (judging from their comments when they notice these things.) But all these things are what I have found to work well for me. And personally I don't give a flying flitter what anybody else thinks.

That, I believe, is a good reason to be different. :)

As long as the different things you are doing are not in direct contravention of the Bible or common sense - say for example sin or poking your eye out with a butter knife - don't worry about being different. If someone thinks you're weird, well, they're probably at least as weird as you are.

Some people think I'm weird because I work at a fast food factory but I bring my lunch from home. I think they are weird because they eat fast food burgers. :p

Agreed with a lot of what was said, especially the above. If it's not a sin that's a quirk (I'm thinking in the realm of Dexter here) and it's because it's who you are, I don't see it as being bad. The right person will either accept it as part of you, or love it as you do and join you in it.

For example, sometimes I worry that I have "too many" pets. I have a dog and two cats (and a fish and a plant - Yes I count the plant because I named it and because I'm usually terrible with plants and it is still alive). And I would have more if I could. If that's too much for someone, then that's on them, that's not on me, as I enjoy taking care of them and having them. Ideally, I'd like someone who will love them with me and not just...tolerate them.

But then I thought, you know... if I'm constantly living my life with the mindset of "What if a future man thinks this is weird, maybe I shouldn't do this" then I won't be able to do anything ever. Just be you and enjoy your hobbies because you enjoy them, and someone will either come alongside you and enjoy them with you, or be happy that you enjoy them yourself. :)

rachelsedge your post reminds me of an xkcd comic. Unfortunately it has profanity so I'll post an edited transcript of it.

[A friend is standing behind Cueball, who is typing at a computer.]
Friend: You should be more careful what you write. Future employers might read it.
Cueball: When did we forget our dreams?
Friend: What?

Cueball: The infinite possibilities each day holds should stagger the mind. The sheer number of experiences I could have is uncountable, breathtaking, and I'm sitting here refreshing my inbox. We live trapped in loops, reliving a few days over and over, and we envision only a handful of paths laid out before us. We see the same things every day, we respond the same way, we think the same thoughts, each day a slight variation on the last, every moment smoothly following the gentle curves of societal norms. We act like if we just get through today, tomorrow our dreams will come back to us.

Cueball: And no, I don't have all the answers. I don't know how to jolt myself into seeing what each moment could become. But I do know one thing: the solution doesn't involve watering down my every little idea and creative impulse for the sake of some day easing my fit into a mold. It doesn't involve tempering my life to better fit someone's expectations. It doesn't involve constantly holding back for fear of shaking things up.

Cueball: This is very important, so I want to say it as clearly as I can:
Cueball: (FORGET.)
Cueball: THAT.
Cueball: (JUNK.)

(Edits in parentheses.)

I agree and I also want to because you have the same name I use on another site. It's like talking to me but it's not me.

One never knows. I might be you from... uh... a parallel earth... no, an alternate dimension... that is........

Oh forget it. It's been too long since I watched Star Trek: The Next Generation. I'm out of practice with all that science fiction terminology.

Being an individual is important and having things that set you apart from the next person is in many ways important even if that is being able to draw.

I feel like I may be a bit more out there then some other people are. I'm not here to brag about that at all. I love going to renaissance fairs and making my own costumes for it. It's just who I am and it brings me joy in life. I am worried that one aspect may drive some guys off, though. I like some other things that women my age might not I feel like I am more worried about this than perhaps is good to be.
Don't worry about it. I'm different to most guys and feel like you do too... but it's overthinking. Just stop, and don't worry about it. So you're into renaissance fairs and making your own costumes for them? That's cool, and really nice cos you don't see many women who are into that these days, really nice I love those things too :)

Just cos you don't fit into the stereotype doesn't mean you'll always be alone. Some guys are also different and we don't like ordinary girls :)

Different is as different does.
