Hi,

I'm a mom with 2 gorgeous (at least I think so) daughters. Both are virgins....and now, they are Christian, but my daughter that is 33 feels like in today's world she is a freak because there are so few virgins her age left. What is a guy's viewpoint? She has been in pageants, and is a deep girl. She has social anxiety, which I think comes from the attention she received in school....to aggressive for her. Now, here she is, 33 wanting to meet Mr. Right, but fears that guys will look at her weirdlybecause at her age she is still a virgin. Comments???
To Christian men who value celibacy... This shows that she's been resisting temptation. It's not bad. It's great.

The secular world does not have our values... so them looking down upon it does not matter.

Is sex ok outside of marriage? = Is not ok.
Is a 33 year old virgin a freak today? = Absolutely No.

This is whom she is: She is blessed among women and blessed are the fruits of her womb.
If I was in US now, I would have talk with her.

Absolutely awesome! Do you have any idea ladies how much it would mean to so many women to have had the choice to stay virgins but had it stolen from them! Any future husband would find you diamonds and what great role models for your children one day!

How would people with a choice then have it stolen? Sex is a choice. If they choose to give something it's not stolen from them.
Neither, as a man, would I see a virgin as having any more value than one that wasn't.
I agree what her daughter is doing is right and admirable, but to assume "any future husband would find her diamonds" is simply not true.
The way I see it, a woman who is a virgin, but embarrassed about it, is less appealing than a woman with a past but has changed what she once did.
If she weren't embarrassed I'd have them on the same level.

I think she meant that many women would have liked to have had the choice to stay virgins, but instead were raped. They were not given a choice. I believe this is what Lighthearted is saying, but I could be wrong.

In a world where sex was always only consensual this would be true.
You must be in the minority that believes rape steals virginity.
Though i think trying to use the argument that people whose virginity was 'stolen' in this manner equates to a much smaller number than suggested.

Firstly I don't see what the numbers have to do with it. Also I do believe that rape steals virginity because I don't think virginity and purity are the same thing.

You are right my sister but some can't understand you. Who is the thief=the devil. he comes only to steal, kill and destroy. So, you are right my sister. The devil stole their virginity.

We should not allow the devil to steal anything from us because we have being given Power and Authority over him.

You might misunderstand a little Mr. Ugly :p
A child who is molested and raped or a woman who is raped doesn't have a choice. If a Godly man or any man for that matter wouldn't value a wife saving her virginity until marriage and find that a diamond in the rough these days....well...ludacris! Ladies, you've done only good things for yourselves by not giving in and holding your Christian values and virtue through very difficult years for teens and young people the last 20 years with all the peer pressure. I personally applaud you.

That may be how you all see it, but tell a child that is raped from three years old into her young teen life that she's pure and she's liable to have a few words to share with you. Let me tell you something else that girl feels...confused,unloved,unwanted,and usually gives herself over to different partners...she either dislikes sex and is afraid of men, or she becomes promiscuous looking for love to fill an emptiness. If anyone is reading this and you know what I'm saying...Jesus can fill that void. Stop hurting yourself further. Find Jesus...let Him fill the void and He will give you the love you seek without harm.

And one more thing...yea...I don't like the way you used the word 'stolen'. My virginity was stolen. I didn't give it away. I sometimes wonder how it would have been...how special it would have bjeen to give my husband an untouched, unspoiled gift only for him on our wedding night.

I just want to say thank you. You tell your daughters thank you and let them know that the Lord is using you and them in this very thread. As well as the comments made to bring some awareness to others about molestation and rape...and how the love of Jesus can fill that void in their lives if they would just ask Him to. He works in mysterious ways...He amazes me.

Over 17.7 women have been raped since 1998 in the US alone...over 63,000 children are raped each year. These are cases that have been reported. Think how many aren't reported.

This is similar to my view.

I read posts/articles where people will say they "lost their virginity".

People don't lose their virginity. They either willfully give it up to someone or have it robbed from them by assault/molestation.

For those who are virgins at the time they are assaulted, they still have the opportunity to have their first voluntary and willful sexual experience with someone. That, to me is still a very special thing.

When I was an available single I was determined to find a woman who could reciprocate waiting until marriage to be sexually active, but I did made an exception in cases of assault/molestation knowing that there are some women who have been abstinent aside from what they were unable to prevent.

Not disagreeing, but please elaborate.
Well, there are three factors at play that are closely correlated but distinctly different. The factors being virginity, innocence, and purity. Rape takes away virginity hands down, and I do mean take. That's the very nature of the matter and at the very least you would have to concede that point biologically speaking. Rape also takes away some innocence. For example, if a male rapes a female she now has the experience of penetration. And unfortunately it's unforgettable. There's an element of innocence that has been taken that cannot be regained. But innocence can be lost in other ways and to varying degrees of severity. That loss of innocence can come from both consensual and non consensual acts just the same as virginity can be lost or taken through consensual or non consensual acts.

Where most people differ is purity. Virginity has been so highly fetishized at certain points throughout history and among certain groups (such as the church) that it has been equated with purity, but they are not the same thing. A rape could take away virginity yet that person remains pure. Why? Because purity is an action and a state of the heart before God. A former prostitute could live in purity to God while a virgin could have the lack of purity of an acting prostitute. If you care to contend that point there are virgins who sell their virginity to the highest bidder on the internet. Literally virgins prostituting themselves. This confusion over these concepts why we get teenagers who feel unredeemable and like second class citizens after they've had premarital sex. And why so many who are divorced end up having sex outside of marriage. They've been taught that their virginity is what matters and they should guard it at all costs to save themselves for their spouse. Once that virginity is lost what do they have left?

Christ does not want our virginity. He wants a pure heart. So many people use the word "waiting". Even I've been guilty of it. But we aren't waiting are we? We are not promised a spouse. What about people who decide to stay single? Can you consider them waiting? We are fleeing sexual immorality and abstaining from sin. Our motive is not to preserve an act but to walk in the spirit and in obedience to Christ. We should abstain from sex outside of marriage first for Christ and then for ourselves. After those considerations you may think of it as gift to a future spouse should you be blessed with one.

I don't think saving their virginity for their spouse is the only thing young girls and young women need to be taught. As parents we need to teach at a very young age all the consequences of sex before marriage. Not just from a Biblical and spiritual standpoint but also teaching them all the risks they take physically and mentally. These are all worse/long term consequences than just feeling like an outcast to their peers or the rest of society.
