I recently decided that I want to put God first in my life. I had prayer yesterday at church, sowed my seed, and stocked up on daily devotionals and Bible reading plans. Unfortunately I haven't made any time for God all day. Its pretty tough trying to find time to focus on God at work and by the time I get home I just want to relax and watch some tv or talk on the phone. I just feel really bad that I am not putting God first. What is the best way to make time for God without feeling like its a chore? Should I set aside a certain time every morning/ evening? How do you make time to read/ pray on those extremely busy days? I do not have a church home so this forum is the closest thing I have to a singles ministry.

Most people i heard who were good at maintaining their reading/prayer times did so either first thing AM, or right before bed. Some people i knew got up early, or went to bed later to fit in the time. Personally i think getting up early is a good time, allows you to start each day off with prayer and reading. But just my personal suggestion.

In reality you would know best what time of day works best for you. Someone who is a morning person might do better in the morning, whereas a night owl would probably do better in the evening. I think the key is setting the time, making the habit, and sticking to it.

Even the best setting may be different for some people. As for myself, I love getting out into nature and studying in God's country. Obviously I can't do this all the time so when I do it at home, I usually have something going for background noise. I've found that if it's too quiet my mind tends to wander. (yes, I know I'm weird this way) :D

You know what helped me? Cutting out a lot of the TV shows I watched. At first, I didn't want to give them up, but when I did, I felt a lot better. And now I don't miss them at all. It's actually really nice to have the TV off all night. :)

I don't watch TV at all. If there is something I wish to see, I either rent it, find it on hulu or "borrow" someone's netflix account. <all these things are pretty rare.

I try to look for God in everything I see. I search for His fingerprints and traces of His character everywhere I go.

Also I do a lot of my praying, when I do other things too. Like in the shower when I'm singing, I sing for Him. In the car when I'm driving, I pray. And in the evening when everything is quiet, I read and take in His peace.

I like to read scripture late at night. I talk with God all day, about anything and everything. I love listening to worship music on my way home from work and at home.

I find that this suits me best, when i actually do it..I also have a devotional even in the bathroom..yes..so i have no excuses, i have bibles, books in my car, in my bedroom,bathroom...cd sermons in my car. Do i miss it at times, yes..i could have read more today.ill read before i go to bed. What we want to do is build up a consistency, that is what will help us the best.

I think Ugly has some good advice if you're just starting to carve out a niche for God in your life. Usually people are more inclined to set aside time in the early mornings or late evenings for God when life is less busy and the day is quiet. It helps us concentrate and meditate on God - to give him our full attention.

People have their own daily schedules that relationships must be subject to, but try to avoid making your relationship with God only a ritual. Now it's time for me to take my own advice. :) God bless!

I agree with choosing a time that best fits you. I so badly want to be a morning person, but it doesn't always work out as planned. My recommendation would be to make it your goal to read and spend time with God at least once a day, rather than a specific time. I find I got discouraged at first when I'd miss that "planned" time.

When I tried to get into a routine, I remember telling myself "I can't go on the computer until I read" or something like that. I know it sounds silly, but for whatever reason it is so hard to get into a routine of reading the word each day when it's not something you've not been doing. Do whatever works best for you :)

Praying and talking with God should happen all day. :) You truly will be blessed when spending time with Him :)
