Because they do.
I don't have the answer, lettilei, milady. But, God does, and, He says that we find 'favor' with Him when we endure suffereing for His sake. That is important, when we suffer, we do so for His glory, which simply means that whatever BAD thing happens to us we are to keep our spirits up, to understand that toil and trouble and tribulation will COME to us in this world but that Christ has done what?
OVERCOME the world
A verse here and there are many about 'suffering Scripture. Peter speaks out the 'suffering for Christ' very well in his two God-inspired epistles :
18Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are unreasonable.
19For this finds favor, if for the sake of conscience toward God a person bears up under sorrows when suffering unjustly.
20For what credit is there if, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience? But if when you do what is right and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this finds favor with God.
We are 'servants,' too, I just learned this tonight, too, the Lord leads, divine appointments, I guess, but we are called 'servants' if we go by what Jesus said to His disciples .
I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
John 15:15
John 15 is good, it is the 'I am the vine and you are the branches' chapter , but, as promised, here is 1 Peter Scripture that really DOES tell while Christ's followers WILL suffer and why they are to suffer and why, even, they should WANT to suffer
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.
7These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
8Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,
9for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
This is WHY we overcome by suffering, for His sake, it's ALL in His plan, it was for Abe, it was for Moses, it was for Moses, it was, even, for Paul, and, ALL the disciples who suffered physically and emotionally in their lives. All for Christ, all for Love, His Love for us first given that we are to suffer and endure and overcome WITH until He comes for us and forever TAKES us from our suffering
