THE REALITY OF CHRISTIAN PAIN

Paul had a thorn in the flesh for which he besought the Lord for deliverance. But he got the No answer: "My grace is sufficient for you."

Then also consider 2 Corinthians on pain:

I more; in
labors more abundantly, in
more abundantly, in
stripes above measure, in
deaths oft. 24 Of the Jews
five times received I
forty stripes save one. 25
Thrice was I
beaten with rods,
once was I
stoned, thrice
I suffered
shipwreck, a night and a day have
I been
in the deep; 26 in
journeyings often, in
[
But when they persecute you in this city, flee into the next]

perils of rivers, in
perils of robbers, in
perils from my countrymen, in
perils from the Gentiles, in
perils in the city, in
perils in the wilderness, in
perils in the sea, in
perils among false brethren; 27 in

labor and travail, in
[like a woman giving birth]

watchings often, in
[without sleep]

hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in
[no food often!]

cold and
nakedness.
28 Besides those things that are without, there is that which presseth upon me daily,
anxiety
for all the churches.
- 2 corinthians

It may be observed how it was not just beaten once.

five times received I
forty stripes save one. 25

Thrice was I
beaten with rods,

once was I
stoned,

[yeah, only once stoned]

Although God allowed Job to endure great mental and physical pain, who was the inflictor of Jobs pain? Satan! Yes God allows us to suffer pain and he does heal on his time. The difference between Paul and Job is Paul was guilty of not following God. Job was not guilty of not following God and Satan thought Job only followed God because he was had everything already. Satan found out Job followed God out of his love for God; nothing altered his love for God. God blessed Job even more than before. The thorn in Paul was to remind him not to go back to his lifestyle of being without God. Before coming to God Paul killed those who believed in God and enjoyed doing it, there are opinions that Paul was gay, you can research this online. I know that God is able to do his sinless will. God is all powerful and above all!

After Jesus, Paul is my favorite person in the bible. I believe too that the thorn in his flesh was his past but God's grace was sufficient unto him. This is a very good post and I thank you for sharing this.

Beware of being an accuser of the brethren. I doubt that anyone posting on this site is worthy to tie the shoes of the Apostle Paul. It is noted that your post is just you saying things.

"For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain."

Paul was so honored by God as to be taken to Heaven & should things he was not permitted to reveal. As a preventive of pride, Paul got a thorn in the flesh. Yet Paul served the Lord despite the thorn, as a recipient of God's grace. Of course Paul, like all Christians, did some sinning and was a sinner saved by grace as believers all are. But a generalization like "Paul was guilty of not following God" is absurd.

Paul was so faithful that the Lord produced the scripture in which Paul prophesies that Christians should imitate Paul, for Paul followed the Lord. It may well be that no Christian ever followed the Lord as well as Paul did.

For shame your post. Part of it I won't dignify with a reply at this point.

The thorn was a preventive vs. Paul becoming proud over his temporary rapture to Heaven. So you can't date it before that rapture. So I don't see any way it was "Paul's past."

Atwood I respect your opinion. We all see things differently; if we did not we would have only 1 religion in the world. I see Job as a man who followed God from beginning to the end. Job was not guilty of murder. I can compare my own life to that of Job. God does what pleases him. Some people have lived lives that included being murders, thief's, rapist, whoremongers, and other hideous crimes. Those who have decided to follow Jesus found forgiveness, and change in their lives. Many criminals turn to Jesus and due to the way our society treats them (those who went to prison and got released) fail back into their old criminal ways. In the U.S. ex-convicts are not forgiven and fully restored. The rights of an ex-con are limited, they don't even have the right to vote. That is why God is the judge who judge's our hearts and his judgments are correct because God knows all. God is not dependent upon people and their evil witness for profit or deals. The new saying is "Together we bargain, divided we beg" I thank God he allowed Paul to be totally restored and do the will of God. We have much to learn!

Shoot, who left the Bible Discussions gate open? They've trampled this thread too. Someone get the cattle prods, we gotta round 'em back up and herd 'em over to their own forum again.

Might oughta take a sleeping pill. Won't do any good if you meet him and you're running on no sleep for two days because you were so excited.

You two are not the only ones excited about this, you have us all on edge lol. Can't wait to see an update. On paper (or laptop lol) you seem well suited. You both seem to be humorous (always needed in any relationship) and into God in a big way. I will be praying that God will bless any relationship that might develop.
Just to add, how lucky you both are to have found a potential partner who is a man/woman of God - that's no mean feat in today's secular world.
