Like 'Where the sidewalk ends'
What is a sidewalk?!

Do americans walk sideways? I often have to translate Dr Seuss into simpler terms children can understand. They had never heard of Loraxes, Sneetches and green eggs and ham either.

America is the land of the automobiles. The roads, the streets and the avenues are for cars. On foot you have to walk alongside the street, and that designated area is named “sidewalk”.

Probably things can go sideways there as well.

huh in nz we just call it a footpath.

My latest paperback read was another memoir called Two Shakes of A lambs Tail, diary of a country vet. By Danielle Hawkins

Farm life is never dull it seems. Though I'm sure I dont really want to be in her shoes as a country vet. Preganancy testing cows, castrating bulls, drenching and dagging sheep, pulling up prolapsed uteruses, vaccinating dogs, wiping down udders, cooking for a shearing gang, spraying roundup everywhere getting rid of any plant that isnt grass...fun times.

Danielle Steel. keeps popping up in odd places and sometimes her older books too, like one called Crossing

Reading the blurb is typical riches to rags to riches tale. This one is a transatlantic liner crossing in the days before jet setting. Hes unhappily married, shes unhappily married too, but they find passion in each others arms! What does Danielle Steel do with the spouses of unhappily married couples? She often has tragic things happen to them like a car crash where they die instantly, or she removes them to a romantic location, like Paris.

Now reading 'maid'

What its like to be a maid. Its not called 'old maid' though.

It sounds like hard work. I am so glad I am not a maid and got an education. Which I cannot use. Oh well.

I finished 'Maid'

spoiler..she didnt get married she finished college and became a writer.

My mum did clean the hospital and used the money she saved so we could go to uni. She didnt go herself.

I did have a student job as a cleaner for rich lady. One house would take five hours as it was such a big house. Thankfully I didnt have to do the bathrooms, and they sort of left it not too messy the day I came.

One time a church friend recommended a job for me and when I got there it was for a hoarder lady and there was NO WAY I could take on that job. I was so horrified at the state of the house which Im am sure she was going to be evicted from that I rang the Phobic trust.

Anyway I am not sure I could write a book about the fun I had cleaning up everyone elses mess.

Being Britney was an interesting read. About Britney Spears, christian girl turned world famous in america pop star prior to Katy Perry (and now Taylor Swift)

I am not sure what to think about her emancipation though she has legions of fans who stick up for her which is kind of sweet (though she insists she's not that innocent). But like most child pop stars, she became a money maker for the industry and a commodity which I am sure she disliked as people wouldnt let her grow up.

The Blood and Bone book has some gory photos showing the inside of peoples knees.

I remember picking up a book for the church library and it was called 'Get on your knee replacements and pray' . It was a hardback though.

ok have finished. I have thought about how sexist the medical profession used to be when women were excluded from studying to become doctors. Not the case now but last century everyone assumed a doctor would be male as if women didnt have anatomy at all, or we just werent physical beings.

Its kind of weird, and some women must have gone through so much to get their degree only to be told they couldnt practice because they were female, or told they couldnt have children or be good mothers because they had studied.

Now reading The Sociopath Next Door

hmm. The first chapter was about a kid who liked to kill frogs by blowing them up, and grew up to become a CEO businessman who liked breaking employees arms, make lots of money and win.

The second chapter a psychologist got a fake degree nobody even checked and she would convince rich people they were crazy for the insurance money

Are these stories even real? It says on the cover that 1 in 25 Americans are sociopaths and has 3 pairs of eyes on the cover and that its a National Bestseller.

The third sociopath was a man who married a rich lady just so he could bludge off her and she had a swimming pool. He didnt work and just sat around the pool all day doing nothing.
When they had a child, he didnt care about his son and left her to do all the childraising.

Now reading Harry and Meghan, the real story

So far, so culture clash. American bride meets stuffy royals and breaks all protocols due to ignorance. Am sure that was no surprise.

Its not like the fake storybook thats was put by themselves about their wedding that included sponsorship deals and products endorsements at the back.

I read a paperback authorised biography of Dusty Springfield.

I had no idea she was a lesbian and her real name was Mary Rose O'Brian not Dusty Springfield.

But now I know. Also she was Irish Catholic, but she did sing 'Son of a Preacher Man'
