Even in the darkest of days, when all hope seems lost, when all our friends seem to have abandoned us, when the world seems joined together against us, and we simply can not see an escape from the tangled webs we are caught up in; we must always remember that it is in these times we

This Summer my kids and I had a picnic in the park, 2 crows stoled our food when we got up to play frisbee. My kids were angry, I just laughed.

There's an elderly lady at church with dementia. One of the men, a relative of some sort (I think), looks after her, but sometimes she gets away and wanders about. When she is "with it" she has a good sense of humor and is very pleasant. Some of the people in church are a bit impatient with her at times, which kind of bugs me.

Today, during the communion at service, she wandered in and went to where I was at the piano. Oblivious to the fact that I was playing at the time, she asked me when she could take communion. I would usually get flustered, since it is difficult to play and carry on a conversation at the same time, but for some reason, I was able to keep playing and answer her question, telling her that she should go with the next group. I spent the rest of the service deeply touched that someone who is losing her faculties still places such a high importance on worship and time with God. I also wondered if had I shown annoyance or impatience with her as have many in the past, would she have come to me to ask her question? I feel blessed that she considered me a "safe" person.

I know how difficult it is to play and talk at the same time for I used to play and was one of those people incapable of doing both. I think, I think you were able to keep playing and answer her question at the same time because of your desire to be considerate to her, knowing her condition, that overcame the difficulty of doing both. :)

I also was deeply touched at church as I was serving coffee today. I've been serving coffee for the morning service and got to know pretty much everyone's face, and pretty much what they order and how they like their coffee. There's this small old man, who doesn't speak much English, and he always makes this "side way cutting" motion with his hand meaning he wants half cup of coffee. And I saw him coming and prepared a half cup of coffee for him as usual and he seems to be appreciative as always. Then, little bit later, he came back and handed me a $20 bill in my hand. Initially I thought he wanted to put it in a donation box (people usually put a dollar for coffee and stuff) and thought he wanted to break that twenty, and was gonna tell him that we don't give out changes from the donation box and not to worry about it. Then I realized that he wanted to give that twenty to me, like a tip or something, and I said no, I can't receive this. When I refused, he just "ran" away and I ended up chasing him and give him back the twenty. I think, I think he was alone, probably not being appreciated, and there's this guy who happens to remember how he wants his coffee and was simply touched that he wanted to show his only way of appreciation, with language barrier, by giving money. This touched me deeply and put me in a thought for a long time. I learned that just little thing like that, remembering how people want their coffee, can touch people somehow. If remembering people's preference in coffee can go that far and touch people, imagine, what and how much showing consideration and kindness to that elderly lady where you could've just brushed her off in a 'can't you see I'm playing for the congregation?' way can touch people and ultimately can make our Heavenly Father smile.

I'm back. :)

Yesterday, the preacher in my old church was preaching about the donkey on which Jesus rode to Jerusalem. He said that, the reason why no man sat on the donkey was because it was an unruly one. I checked the passage in all the four Gospels and there was nothing to imply that. Then I read the same passage in the Tamil version and sure enough, the verse implied that the donkey was unruly.

What I want to say is that the translations of the Bible differ from one another and they can influence a reader in different ways.

I think that's an amazing piece of insight, Chris (about the donkey). Thanks for sharing.

Ugh.

I'm throwing ibuprophen at this bad tooth and it helps for a couple of hours, but my stomach can't handle that for very long. Found out my dentist has closed up shop since last time I saw him, so I had to get an appointment with another dentist. Fortunately I got one for tomorrow afternoon - which was actually better than tomorrow morning, as I will be at work for the lunch rush (which on the first of the month is always hectic, people get their government checks.)

Now I just have to get some sleep tonight despite this tooth. Somehow.

If its foliage then it must have a shrubberry!

The Knights of Ni are despondent because of the lack of shrubberies aboard this train:
