Despite being all into Prog Rock, I'm not a big Genesis fan (sorry, I just can't dig Peter Gabriel). I very much like "Entangled" by them, though.

And as corny as this might sound, I think a line from Batman Begins has me reassessing myself (for the better).
You don't like Genesis either? This is not good.

I've mentioned this in the forums before, but I go weak at the knees for a man in uniform. Literally. I was strolling along in the shopping mall the other day and some police officers came around the corner in my direction. I quite literally felt my right knee wobble slightly. I then tried to walk around them and almost walked in to a stand of hairspray.

The other month, some fire fighters were visiting the school across from my day care centre, and upon passing by, they handed me some stickers to give to the children. After I gave them out, I attempted to strike up a casual conversation with a parent as opposed to my usual 'professional' talk, and stated, "If anything makes me go weak, it's a man in uniform" followed by an awkward giggle. She then looked me square in the eyes and said that his daughter plays in the same netball team as her eldest daughter. The expression on her face that followed was something along the lines of utter disgust.

The was the last time I tried to do casual talk with a parent. Next time they can have an evaluation on their child's developmental and social skills. Sheesh.

I totally get ya!! I myself find something utterly attractive about a guy in an uniform... Federal Police makes me swoon... not kidding... those black clothes, the bullet proof vest and the guns... whoa.... *.*

And don't mind the parents... they want nuns as their kids teachers... ;)

i sort of understand. : ) years in sales and lots and lots of conventions, speaking and stuff have definitely helped me hone the facade of being normal-ish and possibly appearing kind of chill, but there is that whole "i'm a really good guy" vibe that certain men project that can switch on my inner school girl giddiness.

the "I'm a good guy" thing readily appears on the faces of all kinds of public servants, teachers, and otherwise nice guys. police, and especially firefighters seem to have an inordinate proportion of these "i'm a good guy" faces. surprisingly, the mail carriers don't seem to be burdened with this kind of countenance.

however, even more than the "i'm a good guy", the the super-smart guy was always my achilles heel. le sigh.

i think i developed 90 percent of my crushes when super smart guy either:

beat me academically. in fact, the very first crush i remember was the kid who beat me to win the sanders' county spelling bee. : )

or he dropped a five dollar word on me, like "jejune".

or made some sly and insightful, even esoteric reference to something i enjoy discussing, like wordsworth and kant and their expression of the sublime. or wowed me with some other breadth of knowledge.

or, he beat me at something else. something i don't like to lose at, like racing down the mountain, tennis, or smoking me in scrabble.

and it's really a good thing that i'm able to appear cool-ish, because inside, i'm afraid that i'll always be that really uncool girl. that easily excitable, way too giddy chick, perpetually teetering on the brink of turning into the hypeerfreakish super-spazzy geekynerdfreak weird girl who, inside, is maybe a wink away from convulsive laughter.

when the "i'm a good guy" turns out to be frighteningly smart, it's undeniable. actually, i blacked out the last time this happened. yeah, it's that rare. : ) but these purple unicorns do exist in the wild. whenever i've found one, i have always tagged and released them, because they must be studied in their natural habitat for migratory purposes. : )

to joys of giddiness and spontaneous enthusiasm, i salute thee!

gypsygirl: Plus three points if he can actually pronounce "jejune." Some have only seen it in print. And plus another five points if he actually knows what it means. ;)

And today I learned something. My uncle Fred is not the only one who refers to esoteric or large words as "five dollar words." Although I think inflation hits everything... for the last few years he has been referring to them as "ten dollar words." Yeah, inflation sucks universally.

i wouldn't have given the points if it had been mispronounced or used outside of the appropriate context. i think it would've ruined the effect. : D i tend to use way too much french (or french etymology) in everyday language, so any kind of reference to it makes me a bit excitable. : )

i can relate! i have an older friend who has always used the term "five dollar" word, and have found over time that i am weirdly sentimental about too many things, including adorably colloquial phrases that remind me of someone else's amusing vernacular.

p.s. awhile back you used a word that i hadn't seen in forever. it was really rather cool and i wish i could recall it. : )

My brother went to the Newsboys concert last night (he was working so he was right next to them) and the guitarist threw the guitar pick and he caught it! :D
So cool! What does your brother do? and how old is he, is he still single, what does he like to eat, does he work today, if not can i drop by your house and bring you lunch and meet your parents and, okay im kidding.

LOL, I don't blame you. Firemen are usually gorgeous!
Depends of the suit... a nice cut tailored suit is absolutely awesome!! *.*
Interesting, I've paid more attention to the way a guy walks than what he wears lol. If he walks like he's dragging his feet, that's a major dislike.

Ha, honestly, depends on the guy. For me personally, I love when a guy is in a suit and has good fashion taste. However, not all guys can pull off a nice suit. And, obviously, depends on the suit.
