i'm on hold with an insurance company, but there is no music or announcements playing.

this is weird. the no music/announcements deal. why would they do this?

My health insurance has a feature where you can live chat via instant message with a representative through their website. It makes things a ton easier and I don't have to wait forever on hold on the phone.

So I literally just called a company after applying to a position yesterday and a lady transferred me to a 'recruiting' manager. Whereas when he was asking me what my last name was, he pretty much directly insulted me.
I'm wondering if I should start monitoring my phone calls.

It may have been a psychology thing. See if you get ticked off easily or something. Companies hire psychologists that come up with all these cute little tricks to find out about new hires before you hire them.
Whether the cute little tricks work or not, that's debatable. What matters is, the psychologist convinces the company the tricks work.
