So, I've noticed this element in certain female characters of anime, comics, visual novels, literature, etc... It's hard for me to classify what it is (and it's not necessarily the average or majority of female characters), but it's incredibly attractive and endearing.

I wonder if there are real people like that....
Lol your comment sounds like someone who's been locked inside a dark cellar for 20 years and is just coming out to see the world in all it's mysteries....

But it's cool....just sharing what I thought reading it :)

Here is how I classify it - I call it the ...we have lived it, seen it, fought through it and overcome it and we still rock it in our graceful kick butt way, while maintaining our emotional tender side!

Too abstract for my brain to wrap around.

I don't get either of those. But then I don't watch a lot of anime. Maybe my brother, a certified card-carrying otaku (anime nut) would get it, but I can't ask him because he doesn't talk to the rest of the family any more.

I pray that some day your brother will talk to the family again.

Today I once again proved my theory that any type of repair always takes about 4 times longer than it should if you've never done it before..

Today's repair: Leaking waterheater hose.

Should be a very simple fix.. 1) turn off water valve above the waterheater and 2) replace hose. Easy right? WRONG!...

1) Valve above waterheater.. would. not. turn. Feels welded shut.

2) No problem.. shut off water main valve...

3) Water main valve is buried under several inches of mud and the only way to get to it is to shovel out the mud through a roughly 6" x 10" opening in the sidewalk (!!!!!)

4) After several minutes of "back-stimulating" shoveling with a skinny trowel, I finally reach the main water valve..

5) Water valve takes every ounce of human strength in me to turn to off position...

6) Faucet reveals that water is STILL RUNNING(?!?!?!?!)

7) get small hammer and bang main water valve into submission...

8) water is finally shut off (yay!)

9) Go to hardware store and buy replacement hose...

10) Hardware store only carried a weak looking no-tools-needed replacement hose that I don't want to try... but they have plumber's pipe repair tape!

11) get home and start putting on repair tape which keeps unraveling itself and falling to the ground..

12) Several minutes later..Repair tape install complete... water turned back on....

13) Water still trickling from repair tape (!!!!!)

14) Getting dark... plumber coming tomorrow!

Tell him it's kind of like what you see from Touko Fukami in GlassLip or Flora from Twokinds, and he'll probably be able to relate to what I'm talking about/answer you back. When it comes to (real) Otaku, you just gotta hit the right subject, and good luck ever getting them to close their mouths again.

I remember when the LOTRO servers went down due to a terrible rash of storms...and OH the forums EXPLODED! It was quite entertaining though...

That was one of my favorites...

Anyway...

Well, I interview on Friday for a new position within the company - I'm not quite sure how this would affect my pay yet.

I got invited to join an area choir (different than the one I am currently in and am considering quitting) which is going to sing at Carnegie Hall next year. I've never been to New York. It would mean giving up a paid musical gig that I have with a college orchestra since there are schedule conflicts. I have some friends in New Jersey who want me to visit, which means free lodging - always good for a traveler.

Steve, I came up with a joke.

What do you get when you have an area choir that plays high notes?

A volume choir.

(Get it? Volume of an object = area x its height)

This is the part where it becomes super obvious that I'm on a different schedule than the rest of world, because you want someone to talk to only to realize that everyone is either asleep on your side of the hemisphere or not available on the other.

It's also becomes glaringly obvious when you're trying to sleep during the day, but no one can appreciate the fact that day and night are switched for you (thus feeling it's somehow 'wrong' to let you sleep all day, when in reality...you've been working and doing things the entire time they were uninterruptedly asleep...).

So...yeah... There's not really a point to that, just sort of stating a fact in a 'venting' sort of way. =/

Well, I'm on 3rd shift as a night auditor (overnight, CST, graveyard), so my typically anywhere from 2pm - 10pm depending on the day/night, and ends anywhere from 8am-2pm. Honestly, I'm also working two other part time jobs (which are day based), so... I just... don't really have the same schedule, rhythm, or flow that the rest of the world does. I get 2 days off a week (sort of), and pretty much just sleep the first one away.

It's not uncommon in a given week for me to pull a 24, 36, or 48hr stint, and I pretty much consume like 2-4 energy drinks a day/night in order to cope with my lifestyle (not fall asleep at work, while driving, etc etc).

That was a really long reply with little to no consequence for the actual post. I guess... I just kinda relate? That may have sufficed to say.

I woke up feeling crummy.

I have never worked under bosses who actually full out hate me and make it known.

I came home late from working and collapsed on my couch, bawling my eyes out. I never allow it to show on the floor, because I'm there to do a job and that's it. I'm not there to make friends. Even on the phone with my boyfriend, I could not stop crying. I have never worked in such an atmosphere where people are so hateful. Typically, I can deal with hateful and broken people. It doesn't phase me. Even if it's concerning me (for whatever reason). But being belittled, yelling at me, rolling their eyes, looking like they're going to punch me (literally) for 6 hours or more.....I have no idea what I'm doing so wrong. I come in with a positive attitude and I have it for the whole shift, I am not standing around, I'm doing things around the store, I'm being helpful with customers, etc etc. I have had NO training whatsoever....they just put me on the floor. So yes, I am learning as I go and even though I'm picking up things quickly, I'm still learning in new situations.

They are finding little reasons to find fault with. I just put in 20 hours in two days. I'm not complaining with that, but I should be getting treated a little bit better than how I am. I've covered for people, I have been early to every shift. I'm ready to go when I get there. The problem isn't working too much. The problem is working too much and not feeling as a valued member of a team WITH working so much for them. I'm going to be working on Saturday from 8am-9:15pm. I'm tired, I feel unimportant, and so emotionally drained.

I've been there. Sucky place to be. I tried to stick it out, and lasted about 8 months before I finally decided I needed to move on.
