Oh yeah, I forgot to personally weigh in on this. I had those books and I recall them being the Berenstain Bears. I think so many people remember them the other way because Stein is the natural way you would expect it to be spelled.
The only way this can really be explained is some kind of mass confabulation. There are a lot of studies done about the fallibility of human memory and all that I have read, humans confabulate all the time. I know a pretty good bit about psychology. That not withstanding, I remember it so strongly and clearly I can't bring myself to believe any of the explanations. Thats why I find the whole thing so amusing.

I can't even handle this right now.
Sorry Gracie :p.

See as Berstein, hear it as Berstain. Although, with the way it's written it probably should be Berstine.

I vividly remember the series having a German-sounding name. Berenstein Bears is where it's at!

Let's celebrate with a Stein of Bier!
I personally don't like (Bier) at all, but this post was so clever that it automatically gets 10 bonus pints.

Er, I mean... *hiccup* points...

Thank you, Kim. I drink bier in moderation, of course.

I thought for sure it was Berenstein Bears.

If it was something like Albert Einstain, it seems like that would have been very noticeable.

This is just too weird for me.

Unlike this poor video girl, I only had my collection of square books and no cartoon. I always pronounced it as stain lol.

I always thought it was spelled "stein" but pronounced "stain." I read those to my kids but am not familiar with the cartoon or its catchy little jingle.

I can only imagine how traumatic this must be to find out that your entire childhood may have been a lie. Maybe you should post this in the conspiracy forum. They may have some answers for you.

lol, those bretheren are still wiggin out over the pyramid on the dollar. Might not want to overload them :p. There are more things like this than just Berenstein, this is just the first one I seen and it wigged me out the most.
