If there was i would immediately use it to dislike that remark! lol :)
You could but we could also use it like reddit uses downvotes and get rid of all the annoying repeat threads that pop up every other week, by downvoting to the bottom of the last page.

New modesty thread? Downvote
New courtship thread? downvote
New nice guys finish last thread? downvote

But - then, you would need an 'upvote' to counter the 'downvote'. Otherwise, one 'downvote' would push it to the very bottom - and, "it would never be seen again"...

This would not be "evenly" fair to everyone.

Perhaps - if, for each 'downvote', the position was moved down one additional 'slot' from what it would have been originally. The 'upvote' would counter, moving it up in the same fashion. Of course, the 'up' would have a 'ceiling', and the 'down' would have a 'floor'. A large net difference of 'down' votes would push it further down the list...

Just a thought...

:)

EDIT: Of course -- I suppose a post to the thread could count as an 'up' vote...

;)

I wish we could 'downvote' in elections in Australia! Because in this country, no one votes for someone they like, we don't 'like' any of them.... what we do is vote 'against' the one we dislike the most.... but in doing so, we are forced to vote 'for' someone, which is not something we really want to do at all!! lol

Sounds like the U.S.A.

I have always said --- there should be a voting option 'none of the above' -- which - if that option "won" - it would cause an automatic "re-election" where no previous canidate could run. New candidates would have to be chosen, and then have another round of voting -- until an actual person got the most votes.

I unliked our president. I'm not an activist or anything but I have my opinions about how our country is run and I'm not afraid to say them. In general I don't like the current administration. If there was an unlike option for our voting system I would unlike all of it.

hhmmmm not sure if I like where this thread is going..... to like or not to like?

Like totally! :)

I thought it was just me who voted for "the lesser evil" :p
We got more parties to vote for in Norway than in the US, but that don't have to mean there is any making any sense :p

I like the voting threads up/ down idea :D

You guys may be surprised to hear this but this is actually available in India. We have a 'None of the above' option. In the last major election held in April 2014, there were 2% of votes in favour of the NOTA option.

Coming back to the topic, I don't think upvote/downvote is a good idea. As it is, we are not very welcoming to newbies who repeat a thread. This will only make it worse.

I'm thinking someone should write a thread that combines all three: "Nice Guys Finish Last While Modestly Courting."

Whew.

I'd hate to see the backlash of Downvotes for that one...

There wasn't always a like button here, you know. I remember what a cold and dreary place the forums were back then.. Many of us began wishing for a like button and hoped that one day our wish would be granted.. then lo and behold, the man in charge waved his mighty hand one day and said "Let there be likes!" And there was likes. And the man in charge saw the likes and saw that it was good!

Old timers like us are becoming a dying breed, Zero! :)

Also back in the day, when you gave reputation points, you could choose a category that they supposedly fit under--green (positive), gray (neutral), and red (negative).

We also used to play things like Bible Trivia in chat... And members like Anthony4Him, Pineapple (not to be confused with MrPineapple now... this was a different user), and Kyra were our CJ's (Chat Jockeys--they kept up some very lively conversations back then.)

Ah... the good old days... :) But fortunately, we have a current slew of very cool people as well. :)

That is weird because I don't remember you in chat but I remember all those you mentioned. Pineapple was one of my favorite people to listen to especially with that accent of his. Whats sadder is that even the newer regulars are gone like twofeet and baddog (at least I havent seen them at all for some time now, but I only pop in for a couple minutes at most). Then whats even sadder is when I do see someone I recognize and I get all happy but they dont seem to remember me. :/ Ah well... all good things must come to an end right?

Baddog is in most days early in the morning for him, which is like 7-9am his time, which would correlate to about 11pm for you. Twofeet is on an indefinite hiatus from CC of her own choosing currently until further notice.

I have always thought well of both BADDOG and twofeet -- "I like them a lot"... :D

I pray that they are both doing well in whatever life circumstances they may find themselves in...

I like the like button. I use it constantly to say the post is well said and/or I agree. Unliking is a good option as well if you like it by accident or change your mind. But a dislike option would be fruitless because it would potentially cancel out the likes someone else put on. That option could very easily have a troll abusing it for malicious fun. :(

However, the rep power option is something that bothers me a bit. Could be used for popularity or withheld for petty reasons.

Rep... until now I haven't thought about rep points in a while. When it was mentioned I had to go check mine. :-/
