Come on Mitspa, let's leave this sorry thread, my first post in here was of love and wanting to meet them and I was called odd, of course not all followed in that vain of returning evil for good. :)
Yes it appears these Norwegian type folks are very angry people :(

I have a very serious, grievous, grave question to ask. Why do Americans do the whole "I am 1/8 Scottish, 1/16 Norwegian, 1/16 Japanese, 1/4 Irish and 1/2 Mexican" thing?

The same with African American. Dude, your African ancestry goes back like ten generations. You're American, already. Italian American? Nope, you are so thoroughly bred out that no Italian remains in you. You don't even speak Italian. You call a Bologna-sausage sandwich a "beloney saimwich".And what's that, the man in the corner? Your mom's uncle's dog's pet rabbit's foot was a 1/2 Irish? So you're Irish, too?

:'D

Seriously, I don't get it.

I don't see anything wrong in recognizing your heritage. It's what connects us to where we came from....however....if we use it as an excuse to be a victim it becomes an entirely different mindset.

I was just having a sarcastic joke, I know people recognize their heritage. But at the same time, being born and living your life in America doesn't make you African American or Italian American or Irish American, it makes you American.

Haha...no doubt. I consider myself to be American but I blame my faults on my German, Norwegian, and Danish blood. Lol

It is a bit difficult to understand, I agree. :) What has happened here, is a basic human desire for knowledge of our heritage. The stories passed down from our ancestors are cherished. Many families being blended from several different nationalities (myself included) here in America. We can easily identify with and embrace each country. The traditions and customs have been woven throughout our lives. These beautiful combinations of ancestry and the visceral pride and honour for those who have come before us, have inspired us to reach for a greater vision. Each story, each fraction of what makes the journey to where we are today,
is precious to us dear friend.

I am half Norwegian. My grandparents are from Kristiansand and Vestre Sandoya. They came over to the US in 1957 with a 15 year old, 12 year old and 4 year old. My grandma didn't speak any English.

Been to Norway on a number of occasions, have friends just north of Bergen, have travelled around quite a bit of it and have many happy memories of my time there, was thinking recently of taking a few days in Oslo...

So, to all my Norwegian friends...

"ta av de skoene"

You'll be most welcome at my home!
