There is a place about an hour from me called Lillydale, you may have heard of it, it's pretty much a town full of spiritualist and psychics. There is this beautiful outdoor worship or whatever area in the woods, years ago I went to a wedding there. It wasn't a spiritualist wedding, it was just like a justice of the peace type wedding. I've also just walked around there, mostly because it's a neat little place but also curiosity.

I am quite familiar with Lilydale. I've never visited, but I know people who have.

Yes, the witch of Endor. But Christians have a problem with believing in some things. Honestly, most people have no clue what the occult and witchcraft actually is.

DUCHESSAIMEE! HURRAH! Oh yes, the caps are intentional :)
You might be one of the few people in the unique position to really unpack the hermeneutics of that passage. Would love to message you about it if you're willing?? That one has bothered me for years. Its one of those hard set of verses christians have just shrugged their shoulders. The sentiment very much as you describe I think. People don't believe it can happen so they refute the text. Problem is for that one is its historical narrative text, and that text seems very clear .
End rant.
So yeah, would love to chat about it.

Blessings,
Rush

It's very pretty. I never had any thing odd happen to me there but an old friend did, she was there sight seeing in a store and a woman who she didn't know came up to her and said, Sam wants you to tell his Sister Cheryl hello. Sam died in a car accident when he was 19.

That was shocking, but cool at the same time.

If i weren't a Christian there's a pretty good chance i'd be involved in the occult. As a Christian teen i had actually wanted to be in ministry to get people out of the occult. Course back then the occult scene seemed more obvious and mainstream.

I've never had any interest in the occult because it usually involves a combination of sorcery, necromancy, witchcraft, black magic, diabolism, voodoo, mysticism and what not; all of which is not within the light of Christ we are called to live therein. :)

On the topic of ewoks and Endor. I remember watching The Return of the Jedi for the first time when I was 8 or so. When the planet Endor was mentioned, my ears pricked up. I knew that name was from the Bible, specifically the story involving King Saul and the witch!

I see more occult stuff in church than I do most anywhere else.

People doing a candlelight prayer seance in a room where they claim to "Spot Jesus" in the corner, accompanied by warm fuzzies.

Hypnotic social suggestion being performed on congregations to induce a euphoric "God feeling" Come each Sunday and "Experience God" for some purple lights and pretty music IS GOD.

Transcendental worship, "floor time", "catchers", Word-faith healers, seizures, etc.

Superstitious monetary rituals to gain wealth, prosperity and power. Usury, homosexuality, congregational materialism passed off as the new generations way of doing business. Its the new Meta-church, ever farther from Repentance, humility and charity.

Just because people call it a 'church' doesn't make what goes on in there christian.

'15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.'

(Matthew 7: 15-20 / NIV)

You left out catholic rituals btw.

When I was 12, I was reading the Bible on my own, my parents were non-believers, although I had a praying grandmother.

By the end of that year, a close friend and I had started experimenting with Ouija boards, telepathy, and astrology. From there, I got pulled into the occult, and totally away from God. A native woman I met in Seminary said that Ouija boards are a portal to evil, and I believe she was right!

I just want to warn people that you cannot serve both evil and good. Evil is real, and the occult is real. I won't even read my daily horoscope in the newspaper since I got saved. Now I realize most of that is just for show, but Satan is quite capable of taking something silly and making it turn into something evil.

Stick with Jesus, obey his Word and you won't go far wrong.

PS. I didn't answer the poll, because it was so long ago, and Jesus has forgiven me for getting seduced by the darkness!
