There was a tiny spider in my shower this morning. I watched him for a few seconds. Rather than turning around and going back to whatever place of safety he had come from, which path was completely free and clear, he/she (don't know how one can tell with baby spiders) chose to continue to struggle against the large water droplets on the walls of the shower that were slowly drowning him to get to the place HE was determined to go. Eventually, I readjusted the showerhead and washed him down the drain because I didn't want to see him die so slowly (and because I'm not compassionate enough to wanna shower with a spider). But I learned something..about the spider and about myself.

There are times when I meet resistance because I AM headed in the right direction, but there are also times I meet resistance because I'm not. Only when I'm truly seeking HIS way for me will I know the difference.

There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death. ~ Proverbs 16:25

and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge Him,
and He will make your paths straight.

haha!

This totally shows you're willing to listen to God no matter what the situation.

Me in that situation woulda gone down like this:

*I see spider* EEK!! SPIDER!!

*Quickly squishes it and gets rid of it*

Bye-bye, spidey!! Stinks to be you!! Sooo not gonna miss you!

Very True.

When I feel like I'm wading in quicksand and getting nowhere, that usually means I'm doing it for myself.

When I see something that is good and right and I don't do it, I can expect doors to be slammed in my face, until I do what I know is right.

I tend to save spiders. They are almost the good guys, like praying mantises. And they are definately not the bad guys like earwigs, cockroaches and termites.

I don't normally kill things that aren't bothering me either (except roaches...yuck). I would far rather watch them, as I did this spider. I wish he'd gone the other way. :) I don't even kill non-poisonous snakes as a rule, as they help with rodent control in the country where I live. But I don't want spiders or snakes for showermates. :p

Hmm... I think this might come across as insensitive sarcasm and not humor. Not my finest moment lol

Don't worry about it Arwen7. Julianna has a good sense of humor and she likes sarcastic jokes (a little bird told me so - lol).

He should have tried to safe the poor critter, i mean: we are like little spiders ourselves that could easily be washed down by God into the deep pits of hell, but there is still such a thing as His great Mercy for us. So, good story, but bad example: you should have saved the poor critter to make your point even better.

That's what i admire about the buddhist philosophy, that they value all life.. ;)

Probably due to the drought we're having here, the brown recluse spiders are coming out of our attic and finding their way into our bathtub. These are poisonous and will cause a nasty place on your skin that gets bigger and bigger. I feel no guilt killing these...but I try to relocate the cute bashful jumping spiders.

It is hard to know what the resistance means...is it from God to nudge us in another direction..or is it from Satan trying to keep us from doing good? I've been reading Rick Renner's "Dressed to Kill" (spiritual warfare) and he makes a good point...if we are not leaving any doors open for attack through ignorance, deliberate sin, or refusing to deal with an unseen private area of our lives then Satan's attacks cannot influence us. Then if there's a resistance, it's probably God. This seems to go along with Proverbs 4:5-6.

Oh, sure. I bet she just LOVES sarcasm. Oh, I bet sarcasm is one of her favorite things ever. Let's all be sarcastic just because JULLIANNA likes it.

You must remember that since Jullianna is the Queen of Sarcasm that we must not outdo her or there will be a price to be paid. :D

Could you expound on this a tiny bit? I'm not positive I follow what you're saying.

Jullianna can correct me if I'm wrong, but sometimes when we are headed in the direction that God has intended for us we will meet resistance. Often when we are in God's will Satan is going to throw up road blocks to try and keep us from continuing, and I think that God allows this to happen to test our faith and resolve to follow Him. In the long run we end up being the true beneficiary of the test since God already knows what we are going to do, but when we persevere and succeed our faith is strengthened.

Poor spider. :( I think we should observe a moment of silence in its honor.
