I'm risking going off-topic here, but does that verse mean that God will give us the desires of our heart as in, He will place the desires in our hearts that He wants us to have, or that He will give us whatever we naturally want? Or both?

P.S. I really don't know what the desires of my heart are, but I know what I've asked God to make them.

What are the desires of your heart?

First and foremost this must be our greatest desire:

Luk 10:25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tempted Him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

Luk 10:26 He said to him, what is written in the Law? How do you read it?
Luk 10:27 And answering, he said, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.
Luk 10:28 And He said to him, you have answered right; do this and you shall live.

This will cancel out the easy do nothing gospel, being sold as truth today!
Now to love Jesus with all our heart, soul and strength, isn’t a passive love, where you just do nothing sit back, and think Jesus is your cloak or covering, or became your righteousness!

Mat 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.
Jesus made it perfectly clear who His sheep were and who HIs goats were, and His sheep were the ones who did as He commanded.

Luk 13:3 I tell you, No. But unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.

He made it clear, He came to set mankind free from the bondage's of sin, NOT in them, because IF you truly love the Lord your God, and are seeking His kingdom and righteousness, you will soon learn it’s much different than what is being preached in all the popular saved IN sin churches.
Joh 14:15 If you love Me, keep My commandments.
Joh 15:10 If you keep My commandments, you shall abide in My love, even as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.
Joh 15:11 I have spoken these things to you so that My joy might remain in you and your joy might be full.
The joy of the Lord comes from obeying Him, in all areas of your life, where you are actually set free from the bondage's of sin and worldliness, and walking the crucified life in reality, where Jesus is your strength, and your greatest desire is to please Him, deny self, and follow Him on the narrow path that few will find!
Luk 13:23 And one said to Him, Lord, are the ones being saved few? And He said to them,
Luk 13:24 Strive to enter in at the narrow gate. For I say to you, many will seek to enter in and shall not be able.
So the desires of one who is truly converted to Christ, will be to do what Jesus said to do,repent, and obey from your heart all He has commanded us to do!
So if you love the Lord, then you will also love His truth, and be totally appalled at all the false ways being taught today, that teach we are born sinners, and Jesus is the cure, and covering, because we cannot possible obey Him, and if we ever try, then grace is canceled out.
Then under this false premise, when Jesus said to:
Go and sin no more!
Repent or perish!
Strive and agonize to enter!
Be perfect even as my father in heaven is perfect! ((Heart purity)
Endure to the end!
Hold fast!
Count the high cost of following Him!
If you love me you will obey me!
Follow my example to the end!
To be righteous is doing what is right!
Keep your lamp stand full!
Defend and contend earnestly for the faith!
Repent and do your first works if you are still IN sin!
Makes all these commands a choice, not a command to do or perish!
Jesus came to set the captives free, but He didn't become sin, so we could enter the kingdom still double minded, and IN sins, because you’re false teacher told you He is your provision, and any obedient faith of Abraham is earning your way into heaven!
So set your mind and heart on things above, come out from among her, repent and crucify your flesh once and for all to receive the mercy of God, as the city of Nineveh did, and follow the true gospel according to godliness, where the crucified life in the abundant life In Christ, as we touch His blood in repentance, cleansing our dead conscience of sin, then serving the living God, in all humility, power, and grace, which tells us to deny all ungodliness and worldly lusts and passions. Do not trust He did it for you in some magical transformation that never occurred!
Tommy 7-17-12
If you love Him, you will obey Him, and follow His commands, it’s that simple!
1Jn 2:3 And by this we know that we have known Him, if we keep His commandments.
1Jn 2:4 He who says, I have known Him, and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
1Jn 2:5 But whoever keeps His Word, truly in this one the love of God is perfected. By this we know that we are in Him.
1Jn 2:6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk even as He walked.

P.S. I really don't know what the desires of my heart are, but I know what I've asked God to make them.
Basically, if you are delighting in the Lord (focused on Him, desiring to please Him and know Him) the desires of your heart will be godly, so therefore, they will be granted because they will be aligned with His will, plan and purpose for your life.

As to the OP, the true desires of my heart are to do the will of God (because I am unhappy when I'm not doing so) and to have a truly, radically pure life that I live every single day, drawing nearer to Jesus and harkening to Holy Spirit and setting aside all impurity. Yes, those are my desires. There are, of course, desires for the here and now, as well. To be a published author and be able to write books fulltime; to improve my photography and to reach into new areas...those kinds of desires. :)

To show faith of Abraham when God calls me to do things in life, which He has done and will do and is doing now, even. I think, every day, as a follower of Him, our faith is challenged, we just don't always meet the challenge :( I KNOW I am guilty of that.

and , so, no, I don't wanna go like Jonah, don't want to be in no belly of a whale :D

I like your Psalms 37:4 and how you put the other verses that are around it in your 'signature,' smileON. That is nice to let the whole world see (the whole world on c.c., that is :D ) that there is more to that simple desiring than just delighting yourself in the Lord, there is work to be done :)

Thanks! It's something the Lord has been showing me lately. :) It was fun to see Jullianna start this thread; I love it when the Lord is showing you something and then confirms it through what others share, even here on CC. :)

I have to reprimand myself of my own answer here (maybe I should have searched yahoo.com, first :D , or, just thought things through the green noodles a bit better :D )

Ah, to have green noodles, such a chore, I tell ya, my Christ peeps.

And, I do not want you to think that God ever is the one that makes us feel GUILTY . No, no, no, no, no-no-no. :)

God only corrects His own, Christ followers. God only chastens. God only rebukes . And, God only scourges, if He really needs to debride something from ya . And, no, God does not put on you, hydrogen peroxide :D

OK, so, there are more Loving ways God disciplines His own, I was just wanting to clarify myself, even though it was a figure of speech, I think, anyway, what me green brains meant. I am not guilty then am I?

So what am I? And, why not put YOURSELF in this situation, my Christ peeps. What are you?

Just learning.
That's all, just listening to the Lord teach you things, teach us things. My impatience is something the Enemy , that Satan sick, sweet, serpentine fellow, uses to get me. And, that snake uses YOUR WRONG DESIRES too. You must WORK, you must. We must :)

(Desires of) your heart, pop.click!(for following) His plan. :)

Put one and one together and think about it, because it is a glorious thing to be in the perfect will (plan) of God for your life.

Also, I know you said something to me about 'measure of faith,' I hope I answered that well, sorry, my green brains went back to that, but, to me, it was thought provoking what you said. The Lord leads :)

I would love to live to see it become the norm for the Church to minister to the Lord as they did in Acts 13:1-2. I remember reading those verse many years ago, and wondering how can we minister to the Lord? Not quite sure how yet, but, oh would I truly love to see it be something commonplace in Churches.

Actually, your answer is very close to the OP's. :)

I was thinking about a story I heard about a little girl and a pastor. The little girl asked, "How can Jesus fit into my heart? I'm too little!"

The pastor said, "That's just the point. Jesus is too big for my heart too, so I want Him to fill it up and have so much of Him sticking out that people will only see Him when they look at me."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Jesus said that if we loved Him, we would obey Him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The desires of my heart:

1. To have a lot of Jesus sticking out of my heart
2. To be obedient to whatever He calls me to do or NOT do.

Well, (...though who truly ever knows him/her-self?) I believe I've found an answer for the time-being.

My heart (in its better part, thanks only to God), desires to know, love, and be with (even more than just serve) God. I want to be His 'good and faithful servant', but I also want to be so much more! His friend...His brother...(in a platonic sense) His lover...I want to know God as much (as possible) as He knows me. I want to be with Him and in Him forever, and He with and in me. More than anything, I want this! (...like you couldn't believe...*tearing up just typing...)

Secondly, I want to be the man He made me to be. I want to make my Heavenly Father proud, and do what He put here to with all of my might...everything I have and everything I am. I want our first face to face moment to be a happy one! Not one where I'm afraid, regretful, ashamed, or any ext.

Thirdly, I want to be salt in response to the bitterness found in the world. I want to be light where there is darkness. I want to be healing where there is brokenness, pain, and suffering. I want to be good where there is evil. I want my life to count for something, and would gladly die (as so I believe...though the moment has yet to present itself...) for this to be the reality.

Lastly, I want to love and be loved. In a deep, intimate sense if marriage is what God has for me. In a general, intimate sense with all those I meet. In any Godly sense, that I would be as much like Christ has been to me, to others.

This is what I want. This is what I pray. These are the desires of my heart...and as my eyes swell and tears fall, I have nothing else to say.

I was just watching the movie FLYWHEEL for the third time this week, and talk about slow, it just don on me, this movie is about someone who comes to Christ and than wants to delight himself in the Lord, the man Jay, in the movie is bless by a beautiful Christian Wife-Judy, who make him honor his commitment to God, and a wise car mechanic--Sam, who give him godly advice.

If you have never seen the movie I would strongly recommend it.
