Without giving too much away, my hero is raised as a slave in the mines. He works his way up through the ranks and becomes a guard. But at his coming of age ceremony, he's tattooed with all of the sins of his people, the underground slave society. It's considered a great honour, but he finds out he's going to be killed (it's the final part of the ceremony - to put to death the sins of their collective past). Naturally, he's not cool with that. In the process of trying to escape, he stumbles upon his father and together they escape to the surface. There, he experiences the outside world for the very first time. And that's more or less, the first part of the story. And that's where this world-building will help greatly.

Thank you, dear sister!
I love the idea of him escaping and then coming across all of the experiences of the world along his journey. Some of the world-building authors that I love the most have the ability to drop bits of information about different cultures beforehand, so that when you actually meet them, they are almost a legend in your mind. Each culture has it's own way of speaking, way of looking, style of dress. By the end of the series in some of these books, you can tell what nationality or culture a person is from as soon as they begin speaking, or by the way they greet someone, etc. I love that.

Oooh, this book you are writing is something I definitely want to read! Can you have it finished by tomorrow? I don't like waiting.

^ It's available now for only $799.

Tilt Brush by Google

What I wouldn't give to have such a thing in my home?

And $799 is what I wouldn't give. :p

But you can't see it unless you're wearing the headset... and you can't go further than the cable attached to your head.

All I know is that I'm very happy none of us will be here to see it!

Umm interesting, just a few ideas

1) Massive medical break throughs, cures for all cancer, cures for dementia,
cures for many of the diseases around today, new types of drugs which stimulate
a person's antibodies to wipe out disease. But a new group of diseases which have
mutated along the way also appears.

2) Good healthcare but only for those who can afford it.

3) A human colony on Mars, the moon and Venus.

4) New types of energy based on solar power, no gas, coal, petrol etc.

5) new types of driverless transport.

6) All supermarkets will be huge automated warehouses with no staff.
People forced to eat healthy and they just pick up their food allocation for the
week.

7) Houses will have a communication 3D wall which will be some sort of souped up
internet. telephones will be defunct and people will speak face to face via this communication
wall.

8) People will have found a way to warm inhospitable parts of the earth by tapping into
the earths core. So towns and cities will be at the South Pole, while the North Pole will
have melted.

9) new land masses will have been formed via some sort of land reclamation device.

10) all countries on earth will be joined by some sort of high speed underwater tunnel.
A bit like the channel tunnel.

11) 80% of jobs will be home based with most of the population working from home.

12) New materials invented which never need cleaning as they repeal dirt, sweat etc.
So no washing machines or carpet cleaners are needed.

13) There are only 4 basic languages on earth.

Hey maybe I should write a book. Lol

Miri: some of what you said sounds like a book by George Orwell, called "1984." Especially the part about only four languages and the wall video screen communication.

5) new types of driverless transport.
Hmm... I hope they are smarter than the current self-driving cars.

Sadly it probably doesn't have enough fuel to even make it to the first border crossing...

I know I'll be gone by then with everyone else on here, but honestly I hope Jesus returns within 200 years. This world has crumbled and I hate to even imagine what it would be like for future generations. Only God knows when His Will will be completely done on Earth.

I read 1984 as part of English lit, but can't remember most of it now. :)

The only bit which stands out is new speak?
Have I got that correct? Where language lost all its character and
became very simplified.

The scary thing, the communication wall is pretty much here already if you
consider the larger TVs all singing all dancing which do just about everything.

Strangely the part of that book I found most disturbing was the "morning jerks" compulsory exercise program...
