Some of the British Elites kept a picture of George Washington in their bathroom 200 years ago----they asked a visiting dignitary from the U.S. what he taught to the picture thinking he would take offense----he said--seems appropriate-- figure nothing will make a Englishman crap like a picture of George Washington...

Today I learned that sometimes washed up whale carcasses explode due to the gas build up during decomposition

And some countries will use explosives to blow dead whales up at sea to get ahead of the spontaneous combustion.

The most exciting thing I've ever seen wash up here is a huge sea turtle, a bunch of jellyfish, and a baby shark.

**** I don't mean blow them up---put them some place safe because of the build up of gas...

I learned that appreciating the small things in life that we take for granted are most important....a sunset, a shooting star, a child's laughter, indeed the peace we have here in the US. God is very good to us.

My dog learned how to drop things at my request

It happened by accident

But now our fetch games won't involve me chasing her down to wrestle tennis balls out of her mouth, all I have to do is raise my palm and say drop it.

Today I learned that God cared enough to perform a small miracle for me and I still am feeling like I'm on cloud 9. (it was a very small miracle. See the Streams of Consciousness thread for details)

Today I learned that sometimes good things end before they barely even get started.... *sigh*

Swipe or insert?

Because I swiped for years, and now I have to insert. The rules changed on me. I hate when that happens. I'm like swipe/swipe/swipe, oops, insert. Then insert and pull out, poof! Angry BEEPBEEPBEEP from the machine. Finally got it right and didn't pull out the card until it told me to. Mean machine, it's the same angry BEEPBEEPBEEP it gives when I didn't do it right. I want it to give me a plesant "Have a good day" or shower me with confetti on those rare moments or a piece of chocolate when I get it right.

Bad machine! Bad, bad, bad machine!
This one is the insert. I was a little confused as well at first, but the woman at TJ Max was very kind.

Last night I learned what a waste of time public classes can be. Didn't know how to find the imaginary cubic root of an extensive equation. Teacher couldn't tell me how to do it. Teacher didn't have a book that could teller have to do it. But since I started the classes, I have to do the mandatory seat time. So yesterday I spent and hour getting to class, three hours googling the subject on their computer, and then another hour getting back home. Just fabulous.

I learned, through a harsh lesson, that I do not know how to interpret a correlation matrix properly.
You're one up on me. I don't know what a correlation matrix is. I get it's computer related, but if you showed me one, it might as well be Arabic.

I guess you won't be asking me for help, since I just admitted I forgot what an exponent is. lol

It's a matrix that shows how multiple Independent Variables are related to each other and to the Dependent Variable. It's a way to determine if variables A, B, C all have a statistically significant effect on D. That superficial explanation I get just fine, but to put the effects into words - proper words, the likes of which you'd see in a journal article and the type I am expected to know back-to-front because I am a PhD student and I am "supposed to think in those terms"...kicking my bootay.

psst...get hold of posthuman here. He's a mathematician. If I had a look-see at your equation, I could probably work through it, but I might very well wind up confusing you more trying to explain it. Better hit up a CC member that has more math-fu.

I learned today that according to my son I am a 'devil' when I make him do homework... and it's not even math homework!

I forgot what an exponent is.
Its that little number in the upper corner that means "to the power of". For example, an exponent of 2 means "squared".. 2x2. I'm sure u already knew this. ;)

Theoretically speaking, that makes sense. Practically speaking, I've got no chance how to figure that one out. I was told I have the brainpower to get a masters degree. (Never got one.) I don't think I have the brainpower for a PhD.

BUT that you were able to explain that in a way I understood is an artform. Not many high-minded people can drop it down to understandable. So I'm impressed anyway.

And likewise, you contact Post too, because you and he can speak the same language. Maybe he can help you.

Does he like math homework? My brother got math and science. I got English (except for some grammar rules) and history. Neither one of us could ever figure out why the other liked the "bad stuff." lol
