Lol, Frank was my second choice after Benjamin. Tinuviel likes it too, as well as a poster who doesn't post anymore. I'm surprised so many people even know it, much less love it.

I like the Railway Children that was made in the 1970's as it reminds me of my childhood as in the scenes and sense of adventure!

Not so keen on horror movies like Jumanji or movies you sit and watch that go on for ages with nothing much happening and then they end! Mind you, I did watch a funny cowboy film that took years to start with the action packed start being a fly that walked on a mans face! It was a hilarious start to a film! I enjoyed that. Can't remember what it was called.
Won't watch witchcraft films like Harry Potty.
Some strange films out there like "The News". Oh. It was The News..... :D
What do I like.... One horror movie was OK. It was called " The Love Bug". It was all about this demon possessed car.
Can't think of any others at the moment.

I generally have the adverse reaction the second time round on a film.

I do though loathe all sci-fi, all horror, all CGI, and almost everything of Hollywood post Kramer VS Kramer and Three Days Of The Condor.

I think its a combination of being classic Americana and just a special artifact of it's time.

You have the (what is now) politically incorrect messaging. More than one catchy and memorable number, expertly acted as well as sung. Beautiful cinematography. Long, intricate dance scenes with creative props. And union suits.

My grandma liked the movie. Incidentally, grandpa in his younger years looked like he could have been a brother from the film. She wouldn't tell anybody, but that mmmmmmay have had something to do with dating him.

He got fat pretty quick. Poor grandpa.

I see several people listed Divergent. I would have put it on the top of my list if I hadn't read the book first
(I never learn... I always get disappointed if I already know the book)

PS: I am going to watch Dunkirk on Friday too!
I was half planning on seeing it today, but then suddenly it was five minutes to and I am like 45 mins from the cinema ... :p

It will be interesting to see how it turns out. The trailers look appropriately bleak given the situation, but I hope there is are some positive vibes at the end.

A tastefully done victory rally. A Churchill speech towards the end of the war. Something that gives meaning and context to it all.

That is my biggest fear with Nolan, that he's going to give you the holocaust without Jews blessing Oskar Schindler's grave.

Anticipating a criticism- "Well Des, Das Boot didn't end well."

Yes, for multiple reasons.

1. Germany lost. Hitler was evil.

2. The film is riddled with questions over where camaraderie truly lies- With your boys on the sub or with the German state. The hard-core Nazis are made to look like jerks, but the State and the war occupy enough of a place to leave some room for ambiguity.

*SPOILER ALERT*

The bombing at the end. Resolves that ambiguity...or does it?

3. The war in the Atlantic was largely won by the Brits because of depth charges and superior air power. Emphasis on submarine warfare had some seriously diminishing returns.

In short, if Das Boot's ending wasn't bleak, it would have been rendered historically incredulous.

I have to report this post for being overly offensive.
