As I get older, I find myself doing curmudgeonly things.
One of them is my absolute annoyance at people when they try to make their smart phone do everything a computer can do!

Ok...breaking news!

SMART PHONES ARE NOT COMPUTERS....

Ok you're not going to get the functionality out of your four inch screen that you are out of an 11 inch or larger screen.

If you want the mobile power of a computer, that is easier to carry around than a full on weighty lap top, let me recommend a few devices that have just enough power, but not too much bulk.

Mac makes a Mac Book air. It's very light, yet very powerful.

Another option is a Chromebook by Samsung. Again powerful, but light.

Ok I'm done being curmudgeonly.

Now get off my lawn.

I'll probably break down and get a smart phone when I can't get anything else. :D

I don't understand people's need to be in constant connection with Facebook etc.

In the early years when cell phones were becoming popular, I saw a guy in his 40's driving around in his car talking on a cordless house phone about that ^^ big...

And if I had a smart phone, I'd use it to reference how I too can use "curmudgeonly" as part of my regular vocabulary. :)

Embarrassingly, I think I'm older than Stillwaters.

If I had a smart phone to look it up (assuming it has enough power to do so :D), it would probably say that my birthstone is coal (BEFORE it gets turned into diamonds.)

My brother (who works for Microsoft... he was actually on the team that developed Halo 4), once said about the iPhone: "BAH!! They could have called it 'iPoo' and put it in a box and it still would have sold." Lol!

OK, I have to protest. My brother bought me a smartphone a few years ago for Christmas and I am sold. My phone does so many wonderful things. It truly is a fantastic tool that fits in my pocket. In the morning it wakes me up. It reminds me to drink water and exercise. It tells me the weather so I know how to dress. It reads the bible out loud to me while I get ready in the morning. It connects me to a website with daily SAT words that I write on a note for my daughter's lunch. It tracks my appointments and keeps all of my passwords. It allows me to text family and coworkers without disturbing others around me. It is a babysitter with games and movies that keep my younger children occupied while waiting at appointments. It connects me to thousands of recipes to give me ideas for dinner and then creates a shopping list for purchases. It can tell me what stores are having sales and can hold electronic coupons. It is a GPS that guides me from place to place. My smartphone does so much more. Yes it connects me to Facebook and email and even to you all. I love having it and it beats the PDAs of old or lugging a laptop around.

I confess, I have a smart phone. I was going to downgrade this year and get a tablet, but thanks to a super cool prepaid plan, I'm planning on getting a different type of smartphone, with a much cheaper plan, and also thinking highly about getting the Chromebook 550, simply because it has a keyboard. Oh, and it's cheaper then most tablets. As for the smartphone, it's for business reasons.

I like the convenience of smartphones...that's actually how I post on this website, 90% of the time.

I don't use my laptop too often unless I need to sit down and go through my spreadsheets or upload/download media. Everything else can be done on my phone or my kindle. I pay my bills on my phone, I use my phone alarm clock, look up local events, check weather, look up driving directions, receive email, etc. I hate waiting in lines when I'm out so I like browsing pinterest,cc, or financial news when I'm stuck somewhere.

I know a guy who runs his own business almost entirely on a smartphone..he can schedule appointments, collect payments, email his contacts and clients. He actually does check deposits to his bank on the phone by taking a picture of the check.

I also know someone who runs their business ONLY on a chromebook...I think its absolutely brilliant. Google has their office-friendly google docs if you need to create or share something. He can use quickbooks online to manage the bookkeeping aspect, and buy cloud storage if he needs it. Keeps the costs down significantly.

It's kind of exciting to see how quickly phones keep adapting. Except for iphones..I'm anti-Apple on principle, lol. That company is a big fat hippie to me.
