ask yourself: is there a good reason to know these things in detail or is it the thrill of knowing the occult? That will clear things up in your head. Personally I think that if you're asking this question you're doing it with the wrong motivation, but that's up to you to find out :) (rather not through experience though).

About the healing stuff, don't do it. Don't go practically in any case. You got the name of Jesus to heal, something far more powerfull and doing otherwise will put you in a very dangerous position.

I wish I could understand why we're not permitted to use incantations, etc., to heal others at least... I mean it's for the better health of others right? God would be pleased to see that His children are helping others out.

No! It is not a sin to "Learn", however it is a sin to participate and to practice accultic arts! Not only that, it is very dangerous. Satan is sly and can overcome you as you, supposably learn. My suggestion to you is to pray for your friend and yourself, and learn about God, know Him!

Studying it according to the bible is not a sin, if you plan to rebuke it/use ithe knowledge to bring them to Christ. That would be Apologetics. On the other hand, practicing it and participating is sinful. God can heal without the help of mystical herbs and other damnation..
You should stick with trusted sources on your study, checkout apologetics group here on CC.

like it a sin to learn like everything about the occults and black and withe "magic"? And it is a sin to try nd use weird herbs and "magic" to try and heal someone? just wondering I've never tried to use "magic" but my f riend has been talking about trying to heal her friend with white magic is that a sin?
i would advice you and your friends to avoid it. it has ties to the demonic and my friends who have practice...well one has seizures, one is bi-polar, and others have gone into practices that are deeply troubling. they did NOT start out with these problems though people will try and say it was their before. I believe it is a direct result to their occult practices and though I still love them and pray for them.

I have since learn it is unbiblical and goes against God's laws for us. Socercy and any type of witchcraft is wrong because it makes the practioner try and repeat Lucifer's sin by trying to BE GOD and CONTROL the spiritual forces of the world and bend and make them fit THEIR Will instead of listening and obeying God's will in their life.

Remember God forgives a truly repentant heart. To obey the Lord and His commandment is better than burnt sacrifice. Have you meditated upon the Ten commandments and their meaning for your life?

1 Samuel 15:22-25 (New King James Version)

22 So Samuel said:

“Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,
As in obeying the voice of the LORD?
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,
And to heed than the fat of rams.

23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft,
And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.
Because you have rejected the word of the LORD,
He also has rejected you from being king.”
24 Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice. 25 Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and return with me, that I may worship the LORD.”
