At the moment I am looking for work and so far times have been tough.
I noticed an advert for an adult novelty store that is looking for a sales assistant; this particular store is a fair short walk from where I live so it would be convenient for me as I don't have an independant driver's license (let alone any license).

Of course, I am desperate for a job, and I would apply for this if it meant I had a good shot at gaining the position, but considering that this is an adult store - a purveyor of pornographic material and such - I have fear that working there may awaken some sort of carnal urge, and I struggle with masturbation as it is.

Do you think that a Christian would be able to safely work at a store of this nature without being influenced? In the name of getting a job, I need some help urgently.

You need to ask Jesus, not us. And you know what you would be getting yourself in, does a job mean more to you than having a clear conscience with the Lord? You choose.

Absolutely not; unless you're going to be a janitor or something -- cleaning up when no one is there, after hours; no contact with customers.

Uhm, I'm going to have to toally disagree, that would be the worse time to be there. Alone, with tons of porn.

But you can pray -- undistractedly! Either way, I doubt that position is open; it was hypothetical.

Bad Idea. You would be compromising your Christianity.
1 Peter 3:15
5But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and be ready always to give an answer to every man who asketh you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.

Can you be a witness for Christ while working a job that Satan is glorified from? You would destroy Christ as your image if anyone knew what you were suppose to stand for. That's my view.
Even IF YOU could be there uninfluenced. Your testimony for Christ takes the toll.

on the other hand wouldnt you be challanging yourself if you do this and if you dont go into "temptation" wouldnt that make u stronger so you could look at this being a good opertunity

Dat will be a very wrong idea and you know it!. You struggle with masturbation and u're gonna be giving d devil a direct invitation to tempt u. Apart from dat, working somewhere dat practically promotes Satan and his works and claiming to be a child of God doesn't seem good to me.. It's ur decision, choose God or Job

I myself wouldn't have a problem with it. But I was raised in a family where masturbation is not thought of as a sin but a normal part of life.

Also though it would depend on the store itself, There's a couple places downtown that are pretty raunchy (I don't go in those, though I have gone to the other ones.)

I understand, though I totally disagree; I met a man of God from Sweden whose reasoning went like this:

"Which is the bigger sin? Getting married just to have sex, and then getting divorced (which he'd seen a lot of, being a minister) -- or 'taking care of yourself' ?"

I really do not believe in his reasoning, but the power of God was on him in an incredible way; and he was a very clean, kind, gentle person concerned with bringing souls to Christ -- blessed by God in many, many ways. I think that that is his faith that he lives before God; I have my own that I must live, as well.

To repeat what everyone else is saying, it is a VERY bad idea. We are Gods temple and should as such remain holy, while it may be a 'clean' thing to work in the store it certainly isnt a holy thing, and i think leviticus makes it clear we should be consecrating every 'clean' part of our lives to the Lord to make it holy. Just keep praying for a job and God will provide one for you :)

First off I pray God will bless you in the NAME of JESUS with better job offer and with more money or in your case POUNDS!!! I hope thats correct English. I don't think it would be proper for you as a Christian to be around ANYTHING that profits from people selling their body's for money and that can lead you down a dark path. Please see Prov. 1: 15-19
15My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:
16For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.
17Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.
18And they lay wait for their [own] blood; they lurk privily for their [own] lives.
19So [are] the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; [which] taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

And just pray for the Holy Spirit to lead you in All Truth and Righteousness. God Bless you.

I wouldn't even recommend a Non-Christian work in that environment. It's not like you can put this on your resume without embarrassment either.

Pass it up mate, there is plenty of work elsewhere.

Don't go work there, those stores and stuff are earthly.
Those kinda stuff distracts you from Jesus, and it gets in the way of salvation.
Why dont you keep searching, ask GOD to help provide you a nice job.
