Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. 1st John 2:15 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. Mathew 6:24 No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money" John 3:20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.

Music is something that is on my street as I play Trumpet and Piano in the Church and Bands and Orchestra.
I Think we need to do everything in moderation..balance and for the Glory of our Lord Jesus. The Bible say that God duel in Praises so we need to Praise Him,but we live in the world that we need to testify that we belong to him.So we need to listen to music christian or classic or pop or rock but don't forget in all things we need to Praise Him.

I'll repeat what I said in a similar post..

" 23 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive. 24 No one should seek their own good, but the good of others. - 1Corinthians 10:23-24.

To be honest I'd rather just not do things I feel convicted for. Rather than dab in and out of it your whole life cause your told it's okay in small doses. Why not just give it up for God and make things easier for yourself in the long run, and be rewarded in heaven for your humble heart. Rather than being attached to something you don't really need your whole life. "

--------

Hearing this language in a band you like has clearly struck a chord in you, you feel somewhat convicted to the point you needed to post a thread to ask advice. Do yourself a favour, break away from this secular stuff while your young and make it easier for yourself when your older rather than asking this question throughout your whole life - "should I really be listening to this?" If your asking yourself that in the first place the chances are you shouldn't be.

I understand this may be tough for you, especially given you are quite young. Your sacrifices do not go amiss to God though. Breakdown and be rid of these things you don't really need so you can have more of him! Remove the counsel of the wicked far from your tent so that Lord may be the choicest silver for you! :)

Don't listen to music that your conscience doesn't agree with. Do you think that God wants you to defile your brain with such lyrics? Those stay in your subconscious you know...

If you have doubt and need people of the world to reassure you then it probably isn't right.
in the end you have to take it up with God.
I listen to very little secular music, and the secular music I do have doesn't curse. God convicted me of that, and I am going to listen to Him.

What are some of the secular bands you like? I can try to suggest Christian bands that you might like based off of the secular bands you like.

If u cant take it then dont listen to it. Cant take it as in if u get influenced by the lyrics then dont listen to it.. But if it helps u improve ur music skills then y not??? Im a worship leader.. I listen to all sorts of music. It doesnt corrupt me or didnt. People never told me that when I sing they cant feel God's presence rather they feel God is moving them.. :) Though I dont suggest u listening to useless lame songs with no meaning and full of cuss words.. Listen to meaningful songs that will inspire u.. :) Coldplay/Snow Patrol is pretty good... they r mild.. Start with them.. hehe

I don't think God would have issue with us listening to secular bands. Hey, even Christian bands do what they do for a profit... a HUGE profit, may I add. What's worse? Singing songs with cuss words or using your "christian" genre title to make bank?

It's good that you are sensitive to the evil language. If only more were.

Answer: Many Christians struggle with this question. Many secular musicians are immensely talented. Secular music can be very entertaining. There are many secular songs that have catchy melodies, thoughtful insights, and positive messages. In determining whether or not to listen to secular music, there are three primary factors to consider: 1) the purpose of music, 2) the style of music, and 3) the content of the lyrics.

basically I think it may say somewhere in that one book of the Bible somewhere between Genesis and Revelation that music is fine to listen to unless the artist looks like this.
