A girlfriend is not the best way to handle what you're experiencing. It's just a band aid to a deeper issue. Not to mention it's basically you just wanting to use someone else. God is supposed to be your lover and healer, not other people. If you are seeking after a girlfriend to make you feel loved or complete, you will never be happy because people are not meant to make each other happy. But only add to the happiness we already feel. It would be a horrible idea for you to date anyone until you find your way to let God be the one to love you.
Im sorry about the loss of your father, though. It must be tough. But you need to find healthier, less selfish ways to cope and find what you need. Not using others to make you forget you are hurting. Because what happens when your relationship ends? You will still not be healed. You will just bounce from one meaningless relationship to another trying to hide from what you feel. Using others. Never gaining the peace you seek.
