I used to play The Sims 2 PC game. And during that time I was so far away from Jesus, but I was learning about here and there. Since I did not take out the time to learn more about him by reading the bible, he revealed the role of God to me in me playing a video game.

I had created many Sims, and I gave them their personalities and traits and clothes and families and homes. But even though I created these Sims' characteristics with and idea of how I wanted them to be, some of them did not come out the way I intended them to be. I thought I had given this one Sim some of the best characteristics a sim could have, but those characteristics didn't keep it from having free will.

There are several bars that have the Sim's ambitions and goals. Also there are bars that tell you the Sims' current needs and wants. For instance, the sim hasn't eaten in a while so you have to tell them to go get some food. But sometimes I tell the Sim to go eat and he wants to go and do something else. I see his wants, and I know what is more important for him to do, but he doesn't want to do it. And and one thing leads to the next and they are going all crazy. They look up at the screen (at me) and start complaining and having a fit. And I am like, ''I told you to go and.... LOL.

But after a while I started to get attached to the Sim's. And one time while my Sim's were sleeping a theif came into their house. The game options freeze and don't allow me to stop the thief from breaking in and taking the things that my Sim's had bought. I was mad at that thief (One day I put in a cheat code and glitched him out of the house. LOL).

And you know how the Sims get old. You see them grow up into adults and into old people. And one day, THEY ARE DEAD!! I mean really, my heart went after one of those Sims, it was a good Sim. And then the Grim reaper comes. And you can send a Sim over to the dead sim and have them beg (me) to bring the Sim back. The cry and mourn over the sim, and sometimes I was moved with compassion on the Sims. One thing I don't like is that they would have to go to the grim reaper and ask him to bring them back. But I was actually the one who could bring them back. As a matter of fact, one time a Sim died and was buried, but I brought it back with a cheat code. YES, I CAN DO ANYTHING!! I CAN HACK THE GAME IF I NEED TO.

And one day all of this stuff just clicked!! I realized that the same role I play in that game is the same roll God plays in this world. He directs us to do something, knowing our needs, but we and our wants try to trump him. And when things go crazy we look up at him and wonder. And same way with the thief, Satan is the thief of this world. But that thief has nothing on me. And sometimes I let the thief take some things, because they are in the way of my Sim's getting to their goals.

In the same way God has all power to resurrect the dead if he so pleases at any time. But sometimes it is more peaceful for a Sim to just go on and so that the next generation can come.

But one day a female Sim I had created, with good characteristics went completely against how I created her. For some reason she was attracted to other Female Sims, and I would be clicking buttons trying to get male sims to interrupt it, or making the other female sim walk away from her. But she would not change, and I was trying to get her to not do it. I got angry when she would not stop, and I was going to destroy her. But what I did is not ever enter that house again.

Anyhow. When I realized this I got a little overwhelmed. This revelation was just TOO MUCH for me. It made it all too simple. I thought it was a little too much.

Haha. But this was really nothing, and even now it might seem a little trivial, but Jesus met me on m level, and soon he would have me where he wanted me.

We have to move on in Christ. We have to obey God, because he has good plans to prosper us. He knows our needs, and he will allow Satan to take away our wants sometimes to help us. But he has all power over that thief. Always remember this, that Jesus has overcome death. He is the resurrection and the Life!! And no man can come to the Father except through him.

MAY JESUS BLESS YOU!

Good Testimony Ramon, thanks for sharing.

I have the SimCity Societies program and have used it as a rudimentary social modeling
tool. There are limitations of course, but there are simple lessons to be learned just as
you shared.

We can take these concepts further, and must learn how much society interacts. Why
does a female sim like another female Sim, what were the characteristics that draws
them together, one has what another one wants - it sounds like a sociopathic sim to me.

I have other models of social systems that are a bit more serious and real-world, based
on social psychology, sociology, psychology and biological characteristics
*(The Bio-Psycho-Social model). The Sims are a great tool to teach us about social
systems and how personal behavior can relate or be changed based on society. Just so
long as we don't get too entrapped and start thinking WE are god, but rather God's
servant.

Isn't it time we mature and take to the social systems and start addressing personal
behaviors and social systems together, to make the world a better place?

Thanks again for sharing, I think you could put it out to a broader audience online and
many will relate.

So, you get a sim that's a lesbian, and force her to do stuff with guys, but still she stays a lesbian. Because it's programmed inside her character's code.

Huh, maybe this is, I don't know, similar to how reality works =/ You can't force them to change.

Also, of course the sims is about playing God. I'm just glad God isn't like the player in the sims, otherwise we'd all be locked in rooms with no toilets.

Haha. No. Not force her, but direct her. Yet she goes her own way. You know, how you click on the guy and tell her to go that way. But she can choose what she wants to do.

Now I could force her, by putting in a cheat code and making her die, but really? No I wouldn't kill her over something like that, as I hope she might find a guy she liked. LOL.

May Jesus bless you.

Unfortunately, I could not take away the free will she has. She has a choice, but she chooses her desires. I couldn't force her. But I could try to give her a good guy friend or you hint at it a bit. Lol.

May Jesus bless you.

Interesting you got all that out of a video game...

Sims has rather serious issues from a christian perspective, but ignoring the moral degradation in the game itself, you could easily "reprogram" your characters. Virtual reality doesn't have free will, in the end it's just binary. Though that would be hacking and make you a bad controlling demi-god?... ;)

And yes people do have free will, you can bring a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

Technically, i think all Sims are bisexual since you can make them attracted to anyone you want.

Jesus took me from where I was and spoke to me. The Lord is not limited. But now I am somewhere else than where I was before. This is how the Lord can explain the gospel to anyone. Of course, I don't play it anymore.

However, you say they are just binary, a part of a system. Well, humans are coded also, they call it DNA. God is more brilliant than humans, and they still can't figure him out.

May Jesus bless you.

Ramon,

Again I think you have a good testimony, and your initial post is well written. I would only add that you might
add a line or two to warn against playing god with the SIMS, and also about not getting caught up in cliques
and obsessing over the SIMS or anything *(including Christian Chat). I would then suggest that you have a
few people review your statement, clean it up further if necessary, and then post it to the game forums all
over the internet. Ten thousand times ten thousand need to hear your testimony. Perhaps many will see
SIMS in a new light, and use it to see the social issues we face all over this finite planet today and in turn
share their testimony and call to action with others.
