so i have this roommate who is staying with me and my mom until she can get back on her feet
i recently found out that she is atheist and after several times of talking and listening to her she told me ''I am glad that the 'religion' thing id for you but it isn't for me''
and for a while now that quote has been spinning around in my head
have we as Christians the followers of the one and only living God became just another ''religion''?
this thought has really been bothering me and has been coming up in my mind on a daily basis
we as Christians have become so comfortable in our salvation that we have seemingly forgot about the 7 billion people in the world
did you know, the early Christian church was considered by other religions to be anti-religious. It is our modern "Christian" cultural view that has labeled Christianity another religion. Also, by 200 A.D., the Romans actually called Christians atheist because what they taught about God was so radical
were did that passion for Christ go?
i myself am probably the worst of all, i am comfortable going to church and getting on CC but when it truly counts, when i have a chance to talk to a friend about Christ i always seem to pass it up,because whatever reason and i am sure i am not the only one who does this
it is time for me, for us to stand up be the Christ called us to be
to be radical Christians and not just the ''religion'' that we are classified as after all, look at all the things Christ did for us, in Isaiah 52:14
''Just as there were many who were appalled at him
his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man
and his form marred beyond human likeness''
this verse says it clearly, Christ was beaten so harshly he didnt even look human
and then he was crucified and he did it all for us
and we, me especially are so selfish we take that gift for granted
so it is time for all of us to wake up
and flesh out our faith the way we are suppose to do
God bless,
cmacneill

I know exactly how you feel brother. I've felt that way so many times but eventually got frustrated because i couldn't see any change in the church at all. One way to bring about some change is to strengthen our testimony but this world is becoming so corrupt and evil that it's hard sometimes to stand firm and not compromise. Unfortunately the love of money has also corrupted the church and the wolves are at the door devouring the sheep. We must come out of Babylon and preach it John the Baptist style, with FIRE!

i can honestly say, i was like that, i could go to church and get on CC, but when it accually came to me being face to face with a friend and had a chance to share God's word, i totally passed it up!! i was afraid that they didnt wanna hear it, so it made me feel uncomfortable!! It took me awhile to get where i am today, now i have no problem sharing God's word, my problem is now, that i dont have alot of knowledge in the bible, so im afraid that at some point i wont have the biblical proof to back myself up when i get into a situation that involves God or what i believe!! But we as christians need to start doing what we have been brought here to do!!

God Bless!!

Amen Coddy! I agree 110%! I am guilty of this also. I don't want to be a person who has the mind set of, "having enough God" I want to be striving for more and more God each day. :)

God totally woke me up one day, like i was driving and i was in my selfish mood, this is when i was drifting away from God, and i wasnt paying attention to the road when i was driving, and i hit someone, but no dents or anything!! some wake up call!! and thats why im where i am today!!

Wow... I find this thread to be incredibly convicting. I don't know how many times I've heard the exact same thing your roommate told you. ''I am glad that the 'religion' thing is for you, but it isn't for me.'' It's as if non-believers view Christianity as more of a way of life, a cycle of things to do, a checklist... well, a religion. I think many believers even view it this way, which is why the stereotype is unfortunately becoming real.
As Christians, and as humans, we are usually content if we feel like we're on the right track. The only problem is that our "right track" can sometimes be terribly wrong. Sometimes the mind-set is like this... "I went to Church today, so I'm okay", "I prayed once or twice, so I've done good", "I read my Bible this morning, so I've done my part"... The question we should ask ourselves, however, is what have I done for someone else? Who have I witnessed to? Have I helped further God's kingdom at all today? Far too often, the answer is no. I'm guilty of it, very much so.
It's just so easy to get stuck in the routine of religion, and so difficult to keep ourselves alert and aware of others who need God.
