Hey, I was just wondering this for awhile now and I just felt the need to post it here. I didn't post it here before because I thought I would be thought of as stupid, but here we go.

What is considered gluttony?

Is like having a snack, eating a whole bag of chips, or what?

Not much in our culture. I think God likely has a higher standards. I am not sure there is a rule that says.

I guess true gluttony is eating way more than you need, often, and consistently. I tend to think of the extremes here. Not just pigging out once in a while, but every day. To the point where it deteriorates your health and makes it difficult to move.

Here is something more to think on...
in Christ,
does gluttony only relate to food?
(honest question)

No, technically not only to food, but most commonly to food.

I agree with what everyone has posted. I feel if it is taken to the extremes. We have to remember that we are God's temple and we must take of it.

God Bless

One example, back in roman times and even farther back the rich would have big partys with lots of food, they would eat till they got full then go puke it up so they could go eat more.

Doesn't really matter if the church doesn't take it seriously. Sin is sin. Many people say gluttony is the churches biggest sin. And I've heard it said that gluttony is not all about food though we tend to only associate it with food.

Gluttony is eating food for the sake of enjoying the taste only. The rich Romans used to feast, and then throw up, so they could eat some more. At your age, it's pretty hard to eat too much, as you are still growing, and need more food than you might think. Now, if you start popping out of your pants (but not your shirt), and your doctor tells you something is wrong with your weight but can't find a medical cause, look for a psychological cause. The sin of just eating because you enjoy it is probably the last thing that it will be.
