Lately, I've been thinking....What is love?
You always hear "love is patient, Love is kind" verses,
but what is it really to you?
or can you really in depth explain these verses?

Love is when...

a cow has given birth, she licks the new baby just to make sure that it's alright :)

my dog puts her paw on me, when I'm feeling sad :)

you see ducklings following their Moms in the springtime :)

Love is the undying feeling of connection to someone or something, that drives people to do weird and unusual things.

Love is sacrificing your own desires and even your own needs, to put the needs/desires of OTHERS first.

Love is giving your own time to listen/care for/ be with someone who needs you, even when you don't have time- Love is MAKING time for others.

Love is choosing to overlook the flaws of others, (even those really annoying ones) to love the person anyway, for WHO they are (flaws and all).

Love is gracious. It continues to forgive and give second, third, fourth, and even millionth chances.

Love is accepting the mistakes of others, and being there to pick up the pieces - even when you knew they were about to fall. Love is NOT 'I told you so'.

Love is giving up your place in line, sacrificing the dream opportunity, moving to opposite ends of the country to support the dreams of your loved one- regardless of how far-fetched or ridiculous they seem.

Love is honouring and respecting others. This includes, laws of the land, the wishes of your parents/spouse, any guidelines of authority- even if they are completely uncalled for and unfair.

Love is simple. It is patient. It is a state of the heart. Love is a random, unexpected act of kindness- done without expecting anything in return.

Love is BLESSING- THOSE WHO PERSECUTE YOU- True love will not react- but rather look for opportunities to bless the very person who makes your life miserable (we all have one, or two, or a handful of those in our lives).

Love grows deeper with time.

Love is a CHOICE. Love grows more each day. Love is not giving up and walking out when things get tough.

We all have people in our loves who are 'difficult' to love. We need to actively make a CHOICE to love them, to genuinely love them- as Christ loved us. It's hard, even painful sometimes- but it's worth it.

God IS love. He is our example.

This one is easy and simple.
God is love.
Sending His only son to save our sinful selves when in no way did we deserve it.
Sacrifice. Compassion. Love. ♥

Love is patient, love is kind, love is not envious and is not boastful... lol jks

My immediate definition of love is that of a driving force that gives your life meaning; when you love and are loved you feel a profound sense of belonging and of contentment.
Also, love is letting that special person see that you have it inside you when they're with you, and missing them when they're gone... wishing they were still there...

According to the Greeks, there are four types of love: agape (unconditional), phileo (friendly), eros (passionate, romantic) and storge (affectionate). For me, agape is the best kind of love. It is unconditional and self-sacrifcial. It puts others before oneself regardless of situations. It is not of emotion but of action.

According to this Greek (me :D - half Cypriot, half German, mother language is Greek) there is only one love, agapi. What you mention are the resulting affects of agapi. What we call philia means actually friendship and it is more or less a bondage between two people. Eros is the sexual attraction between the opposite sexes. Storgi as very well put, the affection, again as a result of love. It is referred to mother's love. For example a mother loves her child so she shows her storgi.

Now lets not forget that there is modern and ancient Greek (which I know a bit as well) and the culture which has a strong influence on the meaning of expressions as to the words them self. So I would say and this is my personal opinion, on how we (Greeks) use the word also in terms of Christianity, there is form of one love.

Now what I think love is? Sacrifice!!! As Jesus said "No one shows greater love than when he lays down his life for his friends." John 15:13 And Jesus by giving his life and the Father that sacrificed His Son, give the best examples!

....which makes me think shawntc, can love be measured? Is that what you meant by four types of love? I've heard about this four types of love on cc before and I would like to know the source so I can read about it. If there is something I don't know I would like to add it to my knowledge.
