Has anybody here ever read the whole Bible front to back? And I don't mean that you read it enough that you've probably read the whole thing at some point. I mean deliberately trying to read the whole thing. If you read 3-4 chapters a day you can do it in a year.

I've tried but I usually fizzle out after I get through Exodus. I mean the next three books or so are not the most exciting, I must admit.

I tried a few time and failed each time.
But one year I decided to skip around and read a few chapters a day. I wrote down each book and chapter I had read. By the end of the year I ended up reading the whole bible.

See, That's what I've been thinking about doing. Then I wouldn't be reading 3 chapters worth of laws everyday for a month when I get to those books that are mostly laws!

That was always why I failed at reading it from front to back. I had to switch it up everyday or I'd get bored. Lol

I did once. The second time through - before quitting about 3/4 of the way into the OT - I found myself skipping over most of Numbers. Now I just listen to speakers and read material regarding context and historicity of the Bible.

I haven't read it all...but I'm working on it! I'm not reading it front to back though. I am following the plan that came with my Bible. It's a 6 month plan.

Then it has a 3 year plan that goes through the entire Bible. But this last plan alternates from Old to New Testament after every book. This way the reader doesn't get tired of reading the OT for several months.

Something to remember is that reading his word is supposed to be a joy and is supposed to be satisfying to your heart and soul, if you are going to read the entire bible then you need to do it with the right heart or else it will feel more like a chore or something you just have to do and you either fizzle out or you read but do not truly read you understand what the words are saying but you don't truly understand. The bible is like an onion or the earths crust it has many many layers truths and secrets beauties and wonders that are unveiled every time you dive deeper which is why can read it a thousand times and for a thousand years and yet still learn something new still be amazed by it still have you heart and soul impacted in a different way.

I have read through the the whole bible a few times, the first time I was
in my 20s.

On one occasion I got hold of a chronological bible which takes you through the
bible in date order, broken down verse by verse. So for example you start off
with the creation chapters but than also read the various other verses spread
through the bible about the creation etc. This was hard to do at first but the
more I got into it, the more I enjoyed it and had a better understanding of how
the bible fitted together. It also helped to put all those kings and prophets
into context of what was going on. I would definatley recommend reading the bible
through at least once in chronological order.

The key to reading the entire bible is to find an easy to read version. Some
may disagree, but if you are going to be reading several chapters a day, make
sure you understand what you are reading without having to spend hours of
time trying to understand the translation. That will just put you off.

Also don't get hung up on reading the precise number of chapters as set out by the
reading plan. Just go at your own pace, does it really matter if you take 18 months to
do it instead of 12 months etc.

Another thing, reading through the bible like this is different to conducting a bible
study. The idea is to become more familiar with the bible and to get a good overview
of the bible. Just focus on one or two points a day and pray about them rather then
trying to focus too much on everything you read.

If you come across something you want to look at more in depth or which fires the
imagination. Make a note of it and go back to it when you are able to spend more time
on it. Or you could follow the plan for 5-6 days of the week and spend the other days
looking a bit more in depth at the things which catch your eye each week.

In short don't get so hung up on the reading plan, that the plan becomes the goal!
The goal should be Jesus and gaining a better understanding of the word.

I read the Bible cover to cover once so far. Was NIV version. Finished it around the time I first joined CC. Actually going through it cover to cover again at the moment this time with KJV, but at a bit more slower pace. Kinda took a lil break after reading Job. Currently on book of Psalms. Truly God made David one of the greatest poets of all time even outside of the Bible in just literature as a whole, praise Jesus.

Here's where I am currently at:

Psalm 35

1 Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.
[SUP]2 [/SUP]Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the Lord chase them.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the Lord persecute them.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall rejoice in his salvation.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]All my bones shall say, Lord, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?
[SUP]11 [/SUP]False witnesses did rise up; they laid to my charge things that I knew not.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]They rewarded me evil for good to the spoiling of my soul.
[SUP]13 [/SUP]But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom.
[SUP]14 [/SUP]I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother.
[SUP]15 [/SUP]But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not:
[SUP]16 [/SUP]With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.
[SUP]17 [/SUP]Lord, how long wilt thou look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions.
[SUP]18 [/SUP]I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people.
[SUP]19 [/SUP]Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.
[SUP]20 [/SUP]For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land.
[SUP]21 [/SUP]Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it.
[SUP]22 [/SUP]This thou hast seen, O Lord: keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me.
[SUP]23 [/SUP]Stir up thyself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord.
[SUP]24 [/SUP]Judge me, O Lord my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me.
[SUP]25 [/SUP]Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up.
[SUP]26 [/SUP]Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at mine hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify themselves against me.
[SUP]27 [/SUP]Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.
[SUP]28 [/SUP]And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long.

Yes, I read the whole Bible in Grade 6. I've read books here and there and chapters here and there and passages here and there, but I've only recently started reading the whole Bible through again. I'm about half-way through. I'm currently reading the Psalms and I have a new found appreciation for them. I know what you're saying about being bogged down by Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy. They're very difficult books to keep your focus. I think the important thing to know and remember is that even these books point forward to Jesus and His sacrifice. I'll post a couple of really helpful videos:

I am currently working on my third entire bible reading with my wife. So far we have read about 3/4 and that has taken 1 1/2 years.

Things will start picking up in Deuteronomy. Near the end of that book there is a talking donkey.

I highly recommend all of Bible Project's videos. They're aiming to create a video for each book of the Bible. :)

Tourist, brother. That's Balaam's ass in Numbers.

I've never liked Bible reading plans (but that's just me). Currently, I'm reading through the whole Bible, but not from front to back. I'm finding a good method this time - to read a few Old Testament books, then a New Testament book eg. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Matthew, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Mark and so on. That really breaks up the books of Law for easier reading.

Yes, it was. I just didn't want you to be disappointed when you read Deuteronomy and then found there was no talking ass.

I like this little series Tintin, good find indeed. Watched the Leviticus movie so far and I thought it was a good example or summary, albeit a lil modernistic, but not bad. Lol the first time I go through the Bible it's kinda like you all, it's very common that people get bored with Leviticus, Deuteronomy, and Numbers. For my second time reading them I actually kinda liked it in the sense that it made more sense to me than the first time reading through them. One thing though that video of Leviticus kinda showed, but didn't mention specifically. Basically you can see within the basic ideals they describe in the video about Leviticus how their ancient law structures, particularly God providing the sacrifice for the sins foretell of Jesus. Also even before all this in Genesis, which is foreshown in the rest of the Pentateuch books is shown with Abraham and Isaac when Abraham goes to sacrifice Isaac and says God will provide the lamb, and God indeed does so saving Isaac, which also is a foretelling of Jesus.

I was the same at first getting bored with Lev, Num, Deut etc but over the years I have
discovered amazing things in them. Not one part of those books is wasted, they
all point to a massive bigger picture.

The different coverings of the tabanacle in the wilderness have meanings, even
the temple decorations speak of God's mind. Have you ever done a
bible search to look up the word flowers, leaves etc. It's amazing how it all
links together.

Or try doing a bible word search on "door" there are many references
in the Old Testament, so many point to Jesus the door, or closing the door to
sin and opening the door to Jesus.

While doing a word study on doors I had some amazing dreams.
In one I was in a dark room and a door opened just a few inches, through the
gap shone a brilliant white dazzling light.

Another great word study to do is gates. :)
