Have you ever been struck by something that you take for granted? I've been babysitting, and since this is the first time in a long time that I've been around kids, I've realized that parents are pretty amazing people! For example, I had to teach my young charge to eat corn on the cob last night. Now I don't know about you, but this isn't something that I have to think through these days, so just figuring out how to explain the method of eating corn on the cob to a 3 year old was challenging! Does anyone else have those moment? Kudos to all you parents out there who know how to teach the simple things!

I wouldn't say it is taking things for granted by showing a little one how to eat corn on the cob. I'd say it was a memory in the making!

I don't know how many times I've had little memories like that with my 2 year old. He's rambunctious, full of life and love, never misses a chance to get dirty and to give me a hug. Today I was at a restaurant putting his shoes back on (he kicked them off) and while I was leaning over, he took his hands and started messing with my hair. When I was done my hair was an absolute mess. But it was hilarious!

I will give you a perfect example of taking things for granted: There is this girl I know who lives with her family. She constantly complains about how terrible her job is, that she hates it blah blah blah. Yet she lives in a spare bedroom which is the biggest room in the house, she doesn't have to take care of her horses, (her mother, father and sister do that for her) She doesn't have to pay rent, electricity, water, basically she's freeloading on her family. She sits in her room and basically does nothing. Yet she complains about how terrible her life is and how she wants to move.

That, my friend is what taking for granted/advantage is.

Tell me about it! I itched my nose the other day, and my son thought I was picking it... well he decided to pick his nose and he pulled a boogie out. Then he said "Eeeew" and tried shaking his hand to get it off... It didn't work. So then he started making this "EH!!! EEEEHHHH!" noise, shaking his hand harder. He then thrust his arm in the hair, his pointer finger at it's highest, ran over to me and said "MAAAAMAAAAA!!!!"

I couldn't help but laugh.

Lol, kids are adorable, maybe taking for granted isn't the correct term, but when you don't think about things that come naturally, my grandfather had a stroke last year and lost all sensation on his left side and had to learn to walk again. He said it gave him a new respect for children, because they have to learn it, and they don't even have past knowledge to base it on. I suppose that was more of what I was trying to convey.

Yes, and I know that there are things that I take for granted, as far as my physical needs go, but it surprised me how many things I didn't even think about. My mom laughed at me when I sent her a text thanking her for teaching me to eat corn on the cob.

lol :) that's too cute :)

I wonder how many times God looks down at us and laughs at our antics.

Someone told me if you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans. :)
