Have you ever been struck by something that you take for granted? I've been babysitting, and since this is the first time in a long time that I've been around kids, I've realized that parents are pretty amazing people! For example, I had to teach my young charge to eat corn on the cob last night. Now I don't know about you, but this isn't something that I have to think through these days, so just figuring out how to explain the method of eating corn on the cob to a 3 year old was challenging! Does anyone else have those moment? Kudos to all you parents out there who know how to teach the simple things!
I wouldn't say it is taking things for granted by showing a little one how to eat corn on the cob. I'd say it was a memory in the making!
I don't know how many times I've had little memories like that with my 2 year old. He's rambunctious, full of life and love, never misses a chance to get dirty and to give me a hug. Today I was at a restaurant putting his shoes back on (he kicked them off) and while I was leaning over, he took his hands and started messing with my hair. When I was done my hair was an absolute mess. But it was hilarious!
I will give you a perfect example of taking things for granted: There is this girl I know who lives with her family. She constantly complains about how terrible her job is, that she hates it blah blah blah. Yet she lives in a spare bedroom which is the biggest room in the house, she doesn't have to take care of her horses, (her mother, father and sister do that for her) She doesn't have to pay rent, electricity, water, basically she's freeloading on her family. She sits in her room and basically does nothing. Yet she complains about how terrible her life is and how she wants to move.
That, my friend is what taking for granted/advantage is.
