A recent discussion in cc has led me to write this post.

Rape culture;

what is this?
1)Its ok to have sex with someone if they are drunk or passed out. NO
2) If he or she says no..even when they were passionately kissing...then its still ok to proceed...NO
3) Its ok to have sex with someone who is 18 (and other cases under 18) because they are a prostitute...work the streets and you paid for her....NO!!! (usually they are forced or coerced by their pimp. Someone even wrote a book on how to pimp, manipulate and use)
4)Oh theyre a stipper, it must be their choice; Most of the time; the choice to be a stripper; NO
5) Oh your favorite brand name has a pro-rape clothing line..awesome...NO!
6) its ok to traffick anyone for any reason...NO

In any of these instances; it is never ok to rape. Abuser/victim. Get over yourselves if you believe...for any reason the victim wants or desires this and/or created this to even happen "oh you know you like it..." not ok!

and Im done.

I think your preaching to the choir here. I'm sure all of us on CC are aware that rape = forcing yourself on someone without their consent. I agree with most of your points except for the one about exotic dancers.....while I'm sure a lot of girls in that profession didn't grow up dreaming about that line of work and many would rather have a better paying job that doesn't involve dancing......it's generally a consensual activity and very rarely is anyone actually forced to do that (at least in the U.S.). Calling something rape that isn't rape is a dangerous thing to do. If it's consensual, it can't be rape by definition. I only bring that up because if you really want to raise awareness on the issue, calling an apple a tomato doesn't help the cause much ya know?

First I didnt not say *all dancers. Do not put words in my mouth. Traffickers often do make women dance, not their choice.

In chat yesterday, it was actually brought to my attention that people do believe these mis-conceptions so I had to post this-education.

Wasn't trying to dear, it's just the impression i got from this "4)Oh theyre a stipper, it must be their choice; Most of the time; the choice to be a stripper; NO". I must have misunderstood that, I thought you were implying that it was usually "not" a consensual activity. I understand that traffickers do things of that nature, but I was thinking more of how it is in the U.S., although trafficking is a problem everywhere.....forcing people to dance in licensed establishments is not much of an issue in this country.

Really? I didn't know people actually believed that kind of stuff was ok (especially on a place like CC). That's kind of sad, that should be common sense, especially here
