Hey guys, I wanted to write this because its a big struggle in my life and I really want help with it. I am not sure how many people struggle with this, but in essence its like my fear of God has been corrupted or hijacked by another fear, the fear of losing my salvation.

I am always worrying about making mistakes that might lead me to hell, and it really tortures me and causes me to lose sleep because I am worrying. I also make mistakes under this fear (so it causes me to make mistakes), and then I am basically in a state of more fear and worry because I am floundering about. I wanted to stop this fear and get my fear of God back into the good and get the good back, so I do not lose my salvation. I fear this fear will end up causing me to do something really stupid, and it also keeps me thinking inappropriately about bad things when there should be nothing bad to think about. Please pray for me to get deliverance and back to a state of complete harmony and peace. Thanks!

This sounds akin to OCD ─ well, almost. It's certainly no way to go through life, in any case.

Yours is a valid fear, I'm certainly not saying that it's not something to concern yourself with. What, exactly, has lead you to be so fearful of this in the first place?

I am not sure, but it is something I have struggled with over and over and now I am trying to figure out how to stop it, and its a bother. I want to be free of it and love. I think that when I sin or mess up it becomes worse, but its gotten and getting better the more I get close to God.

Dear Fubario,

When I read your post these scriptures came to mind. I hope this helps:

2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Romans 3:10
As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one;

Romans 3:23
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God

1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Don't feel alone. For me its a constant battle everyday. Satan is constant with attacks against my mind, with thoughts, and my mouth with things that shouldn't be said. In James 4:7 it says to "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
We don't have to live in fear though. Jesus already won the victory over sin for us on the cross so we, as his children, can overcome through the blood of Jesus.
It sounds to me like your under attack so if I were you I would get in the word of God and pray pray pray.
I'm Praying for you...

The resemblance between this part of your testimony and my own personal struggles seem almost uncanny. Its rather unsettling and very strange to see someone going through something very similar to what I was dealing with all my life.

Depending on how LONG and WHEN these thoughts and fears started creeping into your mind will really help you to understand the core of the problem. Did these things start happening after you were saved by Jesus? Or was fear always there and then the fear of making God angry just become another fear after being saved?

If you've always dealt with this fear whether you were afriad of not pleasing God or fears of other things before being saved then I agree with someone who brought up that it sounds like OCD ( How should a Christian view Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)? ) . This is part of something I went through that tried to hijack and control my every thought ( How can I take control of my thoughts? ) . If over time when you start to grow in the faith and it doesn't get any better and just stays the same you might want to have this checked out by a doctor. Some things are indeed medical and are not just fears that we give ourselves. God can and will work through medicines/counselling and things such as these if we need them.

And on the other hand if this is something that has been happening after you were saved and the thoughts are all about fearing that you've made God upset then its more than likely a form of spiritual warefare ( What does the Bible say about spiritual warfare? ). If this is something you've dealt with the most out of all your sins and struggles and if it is the core reason you've been doing stupid things or messing up it is only a fight being put up by the enemy. The enemy knows what our weaknesses are and if this seems to be yours no doubt he'd try to use it against you.

It could be a mixture of both. All you need to do is put this into God's hands and pray for wisdom about what it is exactly you are going through and what you need to do to get better. The best thing to do whether this is medical or just spiritual warfare is to constantly be in the bible. Reading and studying, growing in and meditating on the word is VERY important for spiritual growth. As well as for mental, physical and emotional struggles. We are not to live by bread alone but by every word from God. Jesus stated how important it is to be in the word daily and as much as you can. Continue to grow in your relationship with God and trust Jesus no matter what you do. Completely let the Holy Spirit take over and help you (walking in the Spirit Romans 8:1-17 read this). Never give up hope, stay strong and focus on Jesus.

What does the bible say about fear? What does the Bible say about fear?
(Verses to look at when you are afriad: Psalm 4:8 Psalm 23:4 Isaiah 35:4 Romans 8:37-39 2 Corinthians 1:10 2 Timothy 1:7 Hebrews 13:6)

Is there any sin that God will not forgive? Is there any sin that God will not forgive?
(Verses about God's forgiveness: 2 Chronicles 7:14 Psalm 103:8-12 Jeremiah 31:34 Luke 15:3-7 Acts 10:43 Ephesians 1:7 1 John 1:9)

Jesus I just pray here for Fubario. We put him in your hands Jesus and we lift him up in your name. I pray for his thoughts, his actions and the core reason all of this is happening to be healed. I pray you will give him the widsom, courage and strength that he needs to carry on in life with you. The Holy Spirit is welcomed here in Jesus name and I pray your Spirit God will over flow inside of Fubario, that he never gives up hope and allows you to work in his life. I pray for his trust in you and for this fear that is tormenting him to leave. Jesus he is feeling scared I pray that he can remember that there is peace even in the middle of the storm that can be found in you Jesus. Let him find peace in and with you.

I believe you are missing the whole point of being a Christian and why Jesus died on the Cross for you.
You need to establish a relationship with Jesus (Revelation 3:20) and become reborn through the Blood of the Cross.

Hmm, well, I imagine a fear of this magnitude didn't spawn out of nowhere. There are several 'fire and brimstone' messages out there that I think scare the Hell into people. For whatever it's worth, conventional Christian wisdom will say that you are NOT going to burn for eternity over your mistakes so long as you repent and seek God's love, grace, and wisdom. :)

I want to be free of it and love. I think that when I sin or mess up it becomes worse, but its gotten and getting better the more I get close to God.
There you go! Exercise things that get you closer to God, then. :)

What kind of mistakes are you talking about? Then you know if is something that will need proffesional support or get in touch with people who lived the same so they know how help you. the most important is your relationship with God as your father he knows everything about you so we cant hide us from his presence so you may be honest when you pray and ask God to clean all the black things inside you! We can clean ourselves outside but the only one inside us is the Lord...

My father said something to me that stuck with me. He said ''the situation is the same, whether you worry, or whether you do not''.

I imagine that every Christian who believes in the hellfire doctrine feels, or has felt, exactly the same as you do at the moment. But think about it; if God has already written his book of life, if the Holy Spirit is imparted upon those whom God wills, and if God decides ultiamtely who lives and who dies, and God can't be fully known until after death, then what difference at all does it make whether you worry about hell or you don't?

Try to spin your worry around. I mean, you can worry about hell and try to live your entire life out of fear, or you can think about each moment of your life as it is, forgetting past and future (one is gone, the other isn't here yet), and simplify your life by just trying to make the compassionate choice in each present moment.

That is, temporally, the best any human being can do. Without the ability to go back and re-write history, or the ability to go forward and realize every mistake before it even happens, what else can be expected of you but to live presently and do as best you can?

This is an excellent point. It parallels Matthew 6:34; a passage that resonates with many at some point in each of our lives.

Oh okay, I am not sure I follow the same theology as you, but I understand that compassion should come in, I think its all about a balance of differing emotions.
