So I'm a person that usually prays that God will sort of take the wheel from me when I'm trying to figure out where to go. Like "God let me have the job You want me to have," or "Lord if you don't want me to have something just lead me totally away from it."

But is that not the right way to do? Instead should I be less quick to act, and pray for a while before making a decision? Then it's more a joint effort than just going "here's the wheel I may run into a bush" ?

Willingness for him to lead always leads to us trusting him regardless of the outcome. If you are concerned about a new job you want and are asking God for it there is nothing wrong with this however if say he gives you another job that you may not even like this could very well be a new exercise of faith and a deepening of your bond with him. Often times what we want is not what we need, letting him take the wheel is in fact the best way to go the only things that you have to be concerned about is if he takes you to ihop when you wanted wanted to go to kfc and if you trust him in his decision.

If your hearts eyes are always set upon him you can be working as a janitor and be more fulfilled than working as a big time boss raking in the dough

Faith plays a big part in your walk through this life. I find always keeping with Jesus and holding Him is worthwhile and brings fulfilment. Blain is spot on with his post, only by keeping focused on Jesus can there be any kind of fulfilment in our lives. Take Joseph as an example, he went through a horrid time, sold as a slave and more, but he never lost faith that the God who spoke to his father Jacob would stay with him, no matter what.

We should live like this, that no matter what befalls us, as long as we keep close to Jesus and follow His commands to love, including those we don't want to. Jesus will guide our path through this life and the situations we find ourselves in are opportunities from Him to be light and salt to illuminate and flavour a dying world and make it palatable for God and to bring Him glory.
