Howdy guys

First post on here, I won't delve into all my details but the gist is I grew up in church, went to college and was strong in my faith but after a long struggle with doubt I finally have come back around and want to fix my relationship with Christ.

Only problem is that even with praying and reading and real effort I still don't "feel" his presence or that connected with Christ anymore like I used to.

Any thoughts on dry spells? I feel like I'm in the desert sometimes. Any advice is welcomed.

22 year old senior in college btw. Thanks and god bless

I totally understand what you're going through. A lot of Christians deal with it. Sometimes we go through seasons like that. It's tough. We're not gonna always feel His presence, and it often raises doubts, like if we're doing something wrong or not trying hard enough. My advice would be to keep on persevering in prayer and the effort you've been making in your relationship with Christ. Fight the lack of feeling with persistence. Maybe God is using this time as a testing of your faith (James 1:2-4). I would also suggest you find people you know and trust to pray with you and for you about this situation. It would be nice to have a clearer answer as to why you're dealing with this, but we're not always given answers in our preferred way, or timing for that matter. Nevertheless, God is good in all He does, and I'm sure He is still working in your life despite the way that you feel. I hope this helps. Hang in there. I'll keep you in prayer : ) God Bless

Let's check the obvious.

Do you have a solid permanent commitment to follow Jesus? If not make it now.

Have you asked for the release of the Holy Spirit in your life? Many churches do not teach on this. GreenNNice is posting a bunch of threads on this, you can just look at any of his, if you have not done so.

HAve you prayed about who you are in Christ, what He wants you to do with your life?

feeling like you are in the desert only means you have to draw from Christ, LIVING WATER. and JESUS baptizes us with the HOLY SPIRIT(living water). .

John 7:37-39
Acts chapter 2

repent and be ye baptized of the Holy Ghost

I got saved at 14, i'm 37. Its only been in the past few years i learned an important lesson about God. God has nothing to do with our 'feelings'. If you grew up in, or are involved in charismatic teachings, they tend to push the whole 'feelings' thing on you. If you 'feel God' or not. Which i was saved into, but i am now out of that type of teaching. God is there. Feeling like He is there has nothing to do with it. God doesn't sit around giving us Holy Ghost goosebumps all day to let us know He's there. We know He's there because He told us in His word, and it is our job as Christians to exercise our faith and trust in God that we bypass our 'feelings' and have faith. Don't get caught up in emotions and feelings, that's not God primary way of dealing with us.

A very nyc thread, a challenge i face in my life as well. I have had a similar tendency of loosing relationship with God, especially when i get too involved in the world. Its not that we want to lose relation with God to begin with, but the attraction to be involved in matters other than God, subsides our relation with God. The only way to be back in His relation is by first flushing out everything which is keeping you away from Him. God is always there, He never changes, we get too far from Him. Its now on us to go back, seek His mercy and live again as a faithful child. My best way to building relation with God is by spending time in prayer alone and with His word. Father is always there, a child just needs to go back and understand He always loved u and will never change.

the best way for me to see God at work is to be His hands and feet and help others in the world with love. I found that too much time alone doesn't really help me. I would rather be among people helping as best as God has given me the ability.

We are told pure religion is visiting widows and feeding orphans.

As Jesus said very clearly in Mat 6:33 " But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well" this is exactly what we are supposed to do. Once that is taken care of, rest would remain in place.

Matt 18:20 "For wherever two or three people have come together in my name, I am there, right among them!"
You don't say but have you been to church and meeting with other Christians? Personally I feel God most clearly when we worship and during the alter call.
You grew up in church so have you ever responded to an alter call? Made a decision for Christ as an adult?
Keep praying, keep reading and get planted in a good church.
