Being a guitarist,I do listen to secular blues, punk and rock-I don't feel that it has had a negative affect on me-I mainly listen to the music, not the lyrics anyway.(I play by ear,and get inspirtion from the music) I actually Have an outreach band and we use the familiar tunes,re written to glorify God. (we are gettin away from that). but since my musical infuences are SRV,Hendrix,Clapton, ect. I still listen to them. I agree, its ok,as it isnt what goes in,but what comes out-as long as we guard ourselves and protect our salvation.....Even Jesus sat with tax collectors(at the time they were considered the worst of the worst) and lepers and sinners.....*Go in as sheep among wolves*

Here's the answer, acording to God:

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is admirable- if anything is exellent or praiseworthy- THINK ON SUCH THINGS."

-Philippians 3:8

It all depends on you and how strongly you get sucked into things or not. If you try to look like and act like those bands and artists that you listen to then that's where lays the problem. I have a friend who listens to nothing only but the darker music (he tells me the darker music the better) so he listens to mostly the darker themed, satanic anti-God anti-Christian themed metal. And he acts the part as well I've noticed. So really it all depends on you the person that listens to the music (whatever genre that is). For some people it's in one ear and out the other and they're fine, for others it lasts and starts to change them.

I don't think so...
In fact, I don't understand lyrics properly even in my own language...

In fact, most of the time, I am hearing music without lyrics (mostly, soundtracks of games and computer demos)

I really recommend you guys read a really good essay (in book form) by Francis Schaeffer called "Art and the Bible". RationalPi wrote up a very good summary:

"There is a false dichotomy between the physical and the spiritual that has crept into Christianity through the writings of Plato and others. Presently it is seen as a division where going to church, reading the Bible and praying are "spiritual," but science, the job field and especially the arts are "worldly." This has lead to a felt need to "Christianize" everything to make it ok. The word "Jesus" has to be in the lyrics of a song. A painting can only be of "Christian" things. Art becomes shallow.

Schaeffer rightly rejects this thinking and teaches that all of life is given to us by God and is under Christ's Lordship. Man is made in God's image as a creative being. To admire and develop this creativity in every area of life is to give glory to our Creator. Rather than dividing our lives into superficial categories, God gives us the fullness of life to be lived artistically to His glory."
