Okay...I've decided to write about birth control pills.

Perhaps you're not saying that, but currently there are 2 active threads on this topic of discussion happening in the forums.

Some people feel the need to post saying things like ' it's unbiblical' or 'unscriptural' to use any method of contraception, therefore implying it's some kind of morally reprehensible sin, which is simply not true.

That's all I'm saying, it frustrates me so much that people say things like that, which are inaccurate.

Anyways, sunshine, lollipops,rainbows, let's move on :)

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) generally fall in to two categories, I think. Copper, and hormonal. The copper is supposed to be spermicidal, but also agitates the wall of the uterus to prevent implantation in the case of fertilization. Hormonal IUDs work by releasing chemicals that are similar to the pill, but they also help prevent implantation through agitation. That's what I can remember from bio. First legit-ish looking link I pulled on Google seems to back it - http://www.physiciansforlife.org/content/view/182/36/

I agree with you a bit. The bible does say that children are a blessing, but that's far from banning contraception in general. I think there could be some room between the two sides of the argument for God to work. What I'm saying, and I think Betsy is saying as well, is that some types of birth control are less morally questionable than others. Getting your tubes tied or your husband getting a vasectomy is an effective (and cheap in the long run) way of preventing pregnancy. It also avoids a lot of the moral questions about using hormonal birth control. Not only that, but it frees you from a lot of the health risks associated with hormonal birth control.

So yeah, I don't think either of us are saying here that any kind of birth control is bad, just that certain particular types work in ways that might not be moral. Kind of like saying that it's not wrong to put an animal down if you have to, but that certain ways of going about it (lighting it on fire, drowning, etc.) are not cool at all.

God bless you!

weather you shoot a dying cat in the head or stick a needle in it to put it down, both are ways to kill it, and neither one is wrong. Using a birth control pill, morning after pill the other pills IUD condoms spermicide, getting your tubes tide, visectomy, its all the same flippin thing, and none of these not even getting your tubes tied or getting a visectomy is 100 percent effective.

if you get a tubal ligation...or have your husband get a vasectomy ...yes! it is done to prevent conception but if for some reason it doesnt work...you're going to get pregnant. But it's not causing abortions/miscarriages. so it's not exactly "the same flippin thing"

Hmm, wow that's a really uninformed and well, dare I say it somewhat, ignorant comment.

You said they are (and I quote) 'all the flippin same thing' uh NO!!
This is exactly what I've been saying in all my posts, but obviously to no avail.

I guess we just gotta agree to disagree. People will believe what they WANT to believe I guess.

I'm now backing outta this thread. It's just going around in circles!

Alright. Well this is one issue that I'm not going to trust google on. There's too much conflicting information.

So, can someone answer definitively for me, DO BIRTH CONTROL PILLS CAUSE INFERTILITY OR CANCER OR OTHER HEALTH PROBLEMS?

Haha Sharp I was waiting for you to post here.

I am choosing to refrain from answering that question, not because I don't have a definitive answer, but rather because I want to see what others respond with first, and it seems that I'm the odd one out with my opinion on this subject, so best to just sit back eh? That way I don't have to repeat my responses a million times, and I can reply to everyone in one hit!

I'd ask your doctor, bro, if you want to be sure.

Good advice. Ask a doctor, do your research, arm yourself with all the information and then you can make an informed decision to best suit your personal needs!

Here's an example. Let's start with a really controversial topic... I'm sure you have all heard of Postinor-2 (aka the morning after pill). There is soooooooooo much controversy about that, people claiming its abortive etc etc. Let's stop and think about this for a minute.

It takes up to 72 hours from the time of the initial activity taking place for conception to happen. By that I mean, (in simple terms) a girl doesn't instantly fall pregnant if she has unprotected intercourse. It can take up to 72 hours before feritlisation/conception even takes place (if it does at all).

So that is why the morning after pill (well actually there's 2 of them in a pack) has a 72hour time frame. That means the first one needs to be taken within 72hours of the event taking place, then the next one EXACTLY 12 hours after the first. If left any longer than 72 hours, there is no guarantee it will work. It pretty much works as preventative- as in stops conception taking place, it doesn't (contrary to popular opinion) abort a feotus that is already there.
OK, I thought I was done posting on this thread, but I don't want this comment stand alone, because it's not entirely true. Iraasuup misses the crucial fact that fertilization takes place when the woman ovulates and sperm is available to fertilize the egg. She's right that it can take up to 72 hours for conception to happen - depending on how long the man's sperm lives, it can take even longer, up to one week. This is rare, though. When a woman ovulates, the egg will live up to 24 hours, and within these 24 hours, she can have a second ovulation, giving her up to 48 hours of fertility. So this means that conception can happen within the first hour of those 72. It's all about when the woman ovulates. If she does so one day before or while having intercourse, she can become pregnant within the first hour after the act. In that case, the morning after pill will function as abortive.

Not necassarily, but believe what you want, you're going to anyway.

It seems this thread is only for legalists who don't like opposing opinions, and want only to condemn others. Since this isn't me (and I don't have time for such behaviour) I will now bow out of this thread.

To those genuinely seeking answers, I hope you find them, because if you weren't confused before you read this, you certainly will be now :)
