So, there is this part inside of me that wants to be able to walk around my side of town and go hiking and all that alone. But I know its not safe. I feel so torn. I feel like everytime I decide its wiser just to not take unnecessary risk like that, I feel like I am letting all the bad people in the world win. This is killing me! Anyone else ever felt like that? What do you think?

I think you should be able to go walking/hiking by yourself, but use wisdom. You have God with you and shouldn't be afraid. You have the power of God in you and shouldn't have to seclude yourself from things like that. Again, use wisdom in whatever you do, but pray and have faith God will protect you. :)

Why alone? The thrill? Or the serenity? I would say getting neighbors, friends, or church groups to accompany you. Maybe with a large enough group you could be slightly alone while being surrounded by others. Otherwise, would it be safe to walk a mall alone? How far is it to a safer area? You could always go somewhere else.

Have you considered getting a concealed weapons permit when you turn 21? Only if you are comfortable with the idea.

I would not take the unnecessary risk. There are bad people in the world.

Must it be in your town? Maybe you can drive to a safer town and take your walks there instead.

You don't want to let the bad guys win, so you go for a walk and get attacked. Putting yourself out there and in danger doesn't prove anything to the 'bad guys'. Cause whether you go for a walk or not, they're still out there.

I had the same thought as Zero, drive to a better area and walk there. Still be cautious, though. Even good areas can be risky.

Just read what happened to Dinah once. I don't say that you should never go anywhere alone. You should be cautious with things like this. One thing is you might be in danger and the other is you might be tempted to become a loner. Whatever it is don't let your heart takeover your spirit. God will protect you but only if you are also careful.

This sounds like one of those scenarios where you become a mask vigilante and fight crime and become an outlaw hero for making the streets a safer place.

You must feel trapped. I don't have a solution for you, but I have felt like this before. I hope that the opportunity arises to take safe walk.

I know that this feeling in me has caused many problems, both for myself and people close to me. I acted rashly because I nursed the feeling... You aren't trapped, you do have options. :)

Back when I just wanted to go walking by myself in a fairly sketch area I got a canister of bear spray to carry around with me. I felt much safer!
I suppose standard pepper spray would help, too...

It's good idea for all women to carry pepper spray :)

It is a hard thing to simply want to go for a walk and can't :(

Do you have a friend with a car that would want to go for a hike somewhere? I know you might prefer solitude but this is the next best thing.

Pray to God for protection. Walk with misting mace in one hand and a taser in the other.
