Okay, as a Mod, here is my opinion. There is nothing wrong with going to bars and clubs if you are not going as an ungodly person who goes to get drunk, gride on girls/guys, do drugs and the like.

I personally go clubbing every chance I get, but I do it in a different manner than a lot of others do. I go sheerly for the euphoria that the music brings to me. I dance with my friends, and feel the beat in my blood and enjoy it. I don't drink, do drugs or spend time with people I don't know. When I don't engage in the other sinful acts that i see others around me do, then I see nothing wrong with it in my life.

If you are someone who is easily tempted into sin on the other hand, or are afraid that you could be, then don't take the risk in going. It's a personal choice to go, and you have to have a heart for God in what you do. If you go and have fun and show people how a Christian can enjoy themselves without needing all of those other 'stimulants' such as drugs and alcohol, then maybe you can make a difference in someone elses lives.

Live by example. Allow yourself to have fun, but be careful in the way you do it.

I used to be one of these Christians who thinks that clubbing is ok. I used to go alot.

You're all correct on a technicality - nowhere in the bible does it say not to go clubbing, but would you really expect the bible to contain a judgement on it? Would you think it was necessary, considering the other things it says?

We are called to avoid even the appearance of evil. You all know what goes on in clubs.

We are called sojourners. We're not to engage with the things of this world.

Walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called. Does that involve going to places where people take drugs and fornicate? I don't feel at all obnoxious in saying that as Christians, we are above this nonsense. The night is far gone - the day is at hand - so let us cast of the works of darkness.

Contrary to what someone said, I don't think Jesus would go to a nightclub to preach. Firstly, the music would be too loud. Secondly, people sought Jesus when He was on earth. These were people who turned from sin. He didn't go around preaching to people who didn't want to know about Him. People who reject God - God gives them up to dishonourable passions. Let these people sort there own lives out. Nightclubs are no place for evangelism.

Yes, another doom and gloom hard line opinion from me. But in my life, when I think of some of the things I used to do, I think, as Paul said to the Romans, What fruit were you getting from the things of which you are now ashamed?

What are the potential benefits to your spiritual life from going clubbing and what are the potential setbacks it can cause? Weigh it up carefully before you decide to go clubbing.

God doesn't want us to be going to things and places like this. We are spposed to follow God's league and do what he tells us. If they had bars and clubs back when he was walking on the earth, would he have went to one? No. When people drank and done bad things when he went in and changed peoples wicked ways.

Relax, its a question. You seem more bothered by what I am posting, rather being more interested in this thread.

Clubs are not my cup of tea at all. I prefer a nice pub with good ale and the ability to have a conversation with my friends. When the smoking ban is amended over here, I'll be back in th pub every night.

Agree 100% :)

I lost some friendships because of this. I always refused invitations, some of my christian friends thought I was too legalistic.

Not only do I not go into bars, but I dont drink at all. I'm really upset that the apostles drank wine in the Bible during the last supper, also..The aspostles should have known better than to drink! As many apostles as there were that could have been conciterd a party/club. Don't even get me started on the water into wine thing either! Anyone who doesn't agree with me is probably less spiritual than I am.

Less spiritual than you?...Um. Ok. And I'm the most humble person you'll ever meet. ;)

But they drank wine back then because the water was unhealthy for drinking. Also, wine is actually good for you in moderation. The Bible says not to get drunk, yes, but you can totally have a glass of wine without getting drunk.

Maybe you feel a conviction not to drink at all, but it's not wrong for everyone and it doesn't make them less spiritual than you. o_0

The music would be too loud? Hmm...I like to worship with really loud musc and i think God LOVES it. :D (Maybe you're saying they ouldn't be able to hear Him...I don't know.
Actually, Jesus went and had dinner with prostitutes and tax collectors. He did. Read the gospels. He sought them out because He loved them and "the sick needed a doctor more than the healthy". Paraphrasing. It doesn't sound compassionate to just let people sort their own lives out. Jesus sought me when a stranger and showed me His great love. :] If we never reached out--if Jesus never reached out and never wanted the people who mess up, we'd all be screwed.

I think there's a difference between having dinner with them and interrupting them from worldly activities. I don't think Jesus ever went into a brothel and said hey girls lets hang out. He did empty the temple though with whips. Maybe He'd do the same at a nightclub.

Been to bars and clubs prior to me becoming a christian at the time i thought it was fun, but looking back now I do not see it I no longer drink so being around all the drunk people gets kinda annoying and seeing all the things going on its sad to me. I am not sure being in bars or clubs is a good place for christians since the going around are mostly ungodly even if you are not a part of it personally I find it takes my energy away but that is not me we all have that line and idea of were that line starts and ends so as long as you know yours and know what is Godly and what isn't. At the end of the day the chose is yours and if you think you can not handle it unlike myself who avoids them. I do just pray your judgment is focused in on God since I have seen some good christians fall into the lure of the club and loss all lot.

Did you just compare a holy temple to a nightclub? That was kind of random. Anywho, I don't think he would be coming in with a whip at all. I could see Him standing outside of a bar preaching to those who walked in and out of it though. Can we honestly say what He would do if He actually were to step into a place like that today? Maybe sadness? Anger? Both?

The Apostle Paul dealt with these kinds of problems at the church at Corinth. Many of the problems they had were rooted in idolatry and sacrificing to devils through false gods. We are to present ourselves as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to the Lord (Rom 12:1,2). In 2Cor 6:14-18 the believers are instructed about fellowship, communion and being unequally yoked up with unbelievers. This is applied to all unions and not just to marriage. They are finally instructed in verse 17;

'Wherefore come out from among them and be ye separate, saith the Lord'...

This is not a message of legalism but of grace and sanctification and being separate from the influences and devices of the world system. If we are going to grow in grace and knowledge of Christ we must be set apart unto the Lord. God told Moses in Ex 11:7 that he put a difference between the Egyptians (who represented the world) and Israel (God chosen and elect people). That difference involves likes and dislikes, how they lived their lives, how they communicated with others and may I dare say, how they dressed themselves. They that sow to the flesh shall reap corruption, but those that sow to the Spirit shall reap everlasting life (Gal 6:8).

We take every situation in the plan of God and reveal Christ and him crucified. We become all things to all that we might win some. However, we do this without partaking of their evil deeds or compromising with sin. I think we can understand this without it being a hard thing to put into practice by faith.

I'm sorry if I shound harsh --but I serve Jesus and not you. I'm sorry but Christians saying it is okay to attend clubs and bars are not reading the Holy Bible period. Jesus would not be anywhere near these places and neither should you if you serve Him. Am I perfect? No--not by a long shot. I use to attend night clubs frequently before becoming born again and believe me drug use--fornication right on the dance floor--people grabbing you--excessive drinking--fights--etc is what goes on there. The Bible clearly says EVEN if you are around the sin and don't commit the actual sin--your still guilty because you aren't telling each of those people what they are doing is wrong. You are taking pleasure in unrighteousness because that is all that goes on in these places. I hope this helps someone and if anyone would like any more verses or information please pm me. Church--please wake up. Don't take this message as me attacking you--but to wake you up to think and be a solider for Christ--doing His will and not yours. "The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few." That's what we should be doing--not clubbing and bar hopping.

In Christ
Kate
