Church - gay - how do i fit in?

Im not in peoples face about it. I'm Respectful that not everyone will support me. I have a lot of friends out side of church but I'm not being accepted in the the christian circles of people my age. I want to be apart of a church and follow god the best i can but I'm finding it too hard and haven't been to church now in 4 months.

Do most churches still want to reject gay people biased purely on there sexuality? I personally believe god loves me as i am and jesus would never reject me so why do churchs?

Churches shouldn't reject you for being gay but the lifestyle is a sin (rebellion against God), just as is premarital sex, lusting after someone, adultery etc. Gay people can't serve in church leadership but they're most welcome to come to learn and know Christ. We're all guilty of rebelling against God, that's why we need Jesus saving grace via the cross and his resurrection. Repent, have faith and trust in Jesus Christ. That's how it's done.

Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, [SUP] [/SUP]or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.[SUP] [/SUP]*Some of you were once like that.* But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Most people will argue that being gay is a desire of the flesh...i personally think its a desire in the heart. and the heart is wicked (Jer. 17:9)... Its a desire that a person can be delivered from. I know this personally, as being an ex homosexual is my testimony... see, we have to align out lives to Gods Words. If we're not in line with it, we're the one that is wrong, not God's word... and i didnt accept this fact the first time i read it. this is something that i rejected for years. and i didnt really believe in the Bible because of that. until God revealed Himself to me (5 years later) and changed my heart.. also, here is a video testimony of someone else who has experienced being delivered from the desire..

If you have turned away from following homosexual desires and strive to serve Jesus, then yes God has accepted you. As far as I can tell, people cannot choose their sexual orientation, and it does not seem it would be part of God's character to say someone can't be saved because of something out of their control. The Bible speaks against the behavior, not the orientation.

I think Christians reject homosexuals because they are uninformed and perhaps scared. I'm not really sure why. If I were to guess, it's because when they think homosexuality they think of what is portrayed in media - someone who has a radically different lifestyle than a straight person. They have also been raised to think of the lifestyle as a gross perversion. They might be afraid the person will try to encourage others to try the lifestyle themselves, which goes back to being uninformed.

I wish there was an answer I could give for this, but the best I can suggest is to keep looking for a church. Does the pastor know of your struggle? If not, contact him and let him know. That way he can help you and others understand what's going on. It's a hot topic, and I think the pastor would be greatly helped by knowing. If the pastor says you shouldn't go to that church, then shake the dust off your feet and carry on to another one.

Hope I helped.

Thanks Tintin (BTW I love tintin, my friend actually worked on the animation of the film)

What if Im not ready to repent and ask for 'healing'.. I strongly believe there is nothing wrong with being gay and that is how i intend to live my life. Should/can churches accept that and just leave it, even though they believe different?

Everyone has the right to believe what they want. Iv studied history and theology for the last 5 years and using critical thinking i have concluded that homosexuality is nothing to be ashamed of. (This is of course my personal view and i respect other peoples position on the topic)

Is that to much for typical christians to accept? Must i be fixed by some paster who likely is no more intelligent that me?

Sorry if I'm ranting like a crazy person, the truth is i feel hurt by the church and this is not helping me in my walk with god.

That video...... wow.

Do you really think this video holds authority? First problem is he is a crazy drug addict from a bad home, its nice that Christianity has given him a loving home.... But lets not lie. he's just after love and attention. Most of his story is likely to be delusional. ( police made him under go psychological treatment doesn't that say it all.)

But thank you for trying to help. :)

Churches should not reject sinners besides Jesus did not come to call the righteous but call sinners to repentance, so they should try to mentor these folks and show them the love of God. While it's good to gather with the body of believers, being a Christian is not just about belonging to a church community as attending church does not mean you are automatically going to Heaven, you have to have a personal relationship with God. Jesus the Messiah sacrificed His life to set the captives free from the guilt of sin, eternal condemnation, and bondage of sin and Satan, and bring them into a wonderful relationship with God; so my friend, you can experience this freedom and be reconciled to God. You need to sincerely ask Jesus to set you free from this bondage because such lifestyle is an abomination to God. The bible says that the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3:3).

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed (John 8:36).

I used to do the exact same thing you're doing right now. and you're saying that to ease your own mind rather than facing it. keep in mind that iv'e been you. and now ive seen the other side. i know you're probably getting either pissed or hurt or both (i used to get pissed easily when i was told things like i am telling you) i was very defensive.. i had been through hell and back defending my sexuality..but at the risk of you thinking bad of me, i am telling you the truth. God can deliver a person from same sex desires.

The first step in anyone's walk with God should be realisation and repentance.

Living a gay lifestyle is sinful, as are other sexual sins - fornication, adultery... these are the things we need to depart from ourselves. They are temptations that a lot of people face. Facing the temptation is one thing, but accepting it is another.

Let us observe John 8, in reference to what Melissa posted with 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, as IMO I believe this verse can apply to topic being discussed as well.

[SUP]1 [/SUP]but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. [SUP]2 [/SUP]At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. [SUP]3 [/SUP]The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group [SUP]4 [/SUP]and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. [SUP]5 [/SUP]In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” [SUP]6 [/SUP]They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. [SUP]7 [/SUP]When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” [SUP]8 [/SUP]Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. [SUP]10 [/SUP]Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
[SUP]11 [/SUP]“No one, sir,” she said.
“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.

The Church, alas it judges, is for sinners, we are all sinners. Everyone should be welcome to them. But do not expect to find acceptance within Christian groups who are interested in those who are promoting and wanting to live in sin rather then fleeing from it.

Jesus would welcome anyone and show them love. When he was here people didn't like that he hung around with tax men and prostitutes and lepers but he never let it stop him. Jesus showed the world to love others even if they are doing things differently to you.

I think that's one of the best places for people wanting to live in sin, amongst believers............just like God doesn't leave us, but wants to help us out!

We don't say it's fine, go and do what you want. But we can welcome people who want to carry on in sin, and by being lead by the Spirit in what we say, pray and do etc. with God working through us the chains can be broken.............

I believe more and more people will see the goodness of God, and realize that nothing can compare to being with Him, no quick fix joy received from sin could compare to FULNESS of joy in His presence! And to see God's goodness it helps to be around Christians, but He's not limited to that............:)

Lord willing I won't backslide, but if I did I would hope there would be people willing to love me and welcome me, in the place I was.

Hi there

Allow me to be clear about a few things
First off - Rejecting you because you are homosexual is wrong. You should be allowed to go to church and should be allowed to worship in the church.

There is something that must be made clear though. Being homosexual is a sin and a problem which you need help with. I understand that this might not be what you want to hear. But I'm not trying to be pleasing to your ear. I'm trying to give you the truth and help you.

You need to understand that you are not the only one that is sinning. But to remain in that sin is harmful for you. Accepting the sin as truth is dangerous. Just like a person drinking too much or telling lies is doing sin. There is place in God's house for forgiveness for all sins except the sin against the Holy Spirit. The sin which you commit is no more or less a sin then the sins anybody else commits. But all (including you) should try and break free from their sin. Granted some sins are harder to break than others, but it is do-able. Just like changing from an alcoholic doesn't come by snapping your fingers, so to it is with all type of addictions. And yes, sorry it is a form of an addiction. But by grace if you can understand that it is wrong and sinful then you can be set free.

I have a friend that used to be gay(homosexual). He told me about it and we prayed. God let him on a path of cleansing, but he was set free. Today he's got two kids and a wife and he loves them dearly. Being gay, does not seem like a choice because you think you cannot control your own desires. I understand. But your desires should be subjected under the laws of God. For even though you will be saved, you are hampering your own growth in the spirit if you allow sin to be part of your life. And in this I wish to explain that this is true for all types of sin, not just yours. I also battle every day trying to clean myself to live perfectly unto God from various sins. But one must accept the responsibility of that it is sin, that which is sin and that we should get it out of our lives. Because I assure you, it will do more harm than good.

So that being said. It is wrong for the church the reject you as a person. But please go and pray against the sin, and that God should set you free from it. Some sins, God sets us free immediately. Some take longer, because we have others sins involved. Sometimes even a couple of months. Don't let that discourage you. Take heart. Believe and pray and ask the people who are your friends to pray with you. If you are ernest...God will grant you peace and healing.

God cannot accept sin. But God can accept you. Just like God cannot accept it, if I watch pornography or lie. But God can accept me and save me. Save - as in pulling totally away from sin and being freed so you no longer have to be addicted, nor commit the sin, but that you are as God wants you to be. Arrogance only makes it harder on yourself. Stating that God will accept you for who you are. The truth is this. You are not gay. You are you. Being gay has nothing to do with you. Just like telling lies has nothing to do with me. So God who created you, will accept you if you call out to Him. But you must let go of the sinful natures. For just like me, I expect that you might have more than one sin bothering you. Ask and plead with God to help you to get rid of it. And you will live a clean and free life within God.

your not following God the best you can or you wouldnt be gay. I WAS a porn/sex/drug addict and gave it all up for God. Try the catholic church they have more to worry about than gay people in their congragation. Sorry bro but I dont tiptoe somebodys gotta tell you the truth Im fine with being hated. God hates people that have gay sex and I assume that there is a serious spiritual problem in there. He hates alot of other stuff too like all the crap I used to get up to. Pray. Hard!

Its a sin,of course sinners should be in church and listen to the word, I don't hate people who are gay, just like I. Don't hate other sinners, but it is a sin, on the other hand I think those who feel they are gay and remain celibate, should be allowed to be a part of church leadership, if they are not acting on those desires, they are not sinning, they just will need to devote their entire life to God and the church

I hear alot of people say oh i love and worship Jesus but they live in sin and adopt the world's way of thinking. But Jesus has an answer for that. Why do you call me Lord Lord and not obey what I say? Luke 6:46 He also said
If you love me you will keep my commandments John 14:15
As believers we repent for our sins. Keep in mind theres a big difference between struggling with sin ( that happens to all of us) and promoting and living in it ( thinking its good or okay).God brings us to repentance because He loves us. Sin is evil destructive and it dishoners God.God hates sin and we should too.God is so very forgiving and will always forgive the repentant and He is our helper. No loves us as much as Him.

does anyone ever think that gay people might be being tested, they cant act on these desires because they are sin, but they also need to love God, the only way to do this is to remain completely celibate and make the church their only love
