Hello! I need some advice. I am an adult who decided to go back to college. I am a Christian and so when the opportunity came along to transfer to a Christian college I thought it was the best thing that could of happened to me. I was wrong. When a secular institution promotes things against the Bible I can handle it because I can understand not everyone knows God. When this Christian college promoted this anti-Christian agenda but sugar coats it by spewing scripture here and there it devastated me. I have been going to this college for a year and have a year left. On top of that, last year through a series of events began attending a new church. I figured out after a month or so this was a prosperity gospel church. I didn't know enough about the prosperity gospel to determine if it was wrong or not. Recently God opened my eyes to see that their teachings are misguided. So for a year I have been in a Christian School and a Church that both promote false doctrine. I stopped attending the church a few weeks ago. I have fallen into depression and lost hope. I am frustrated. I do not even want to try another church for now because I can't take anymore of this new age false Christianity that has been thrown in my face by professors and clergy. It breaks my heart how many Christians are falling for this deception. I feel like I am a Christian that is completely alone. I even questioned am I the one who is wrong and have lost my mind. God would lead my to scriptures that confirmed that I am not. Anyways, that is why I joined here to see what people have to say about this. I have NO ONE to discuss this with. Thanks in advance for any advice.

This is nothing new. I remember hearing this stuff taught 25 years ago. Some people on this site believe it.

Don't know what to tell you as in relation to this story I cannot relate to responding with depression. One church teaches it and you give up on church? Perhaps it's time to step back and recenter your focus away from man made institutions providing your stability. The Apostles and countless believers around the world have been imprisoned, tortured or killed for their faith and stayed strong. You end upset a bad church and school and fall apart.
It is frustrating and hearing that message is disgusting, but it seems you are overreacting.
Find a new church. Push through school, and in the meantime pray. Also keep in mind God loves taking our negatives and mistakes and turning them into something good. Perhaps give God some credit and trust that He will work this situation out too. And working it out doesn't mean giving you what you want, but providing an outcome you could never have predicted.

Wow, obviously I may have made a mistake by sharing my frustration. I can't with anyone in the world or apparently here without being harshly judged. You do not know me or what I have been through. I am not comparing my problems with modern Christianity to those that the apostles endured.

KIM,
Let's face it. This kind of thing is going to happen to ANY of us if we do not stick strictly with a denominational view and teaching that we have come to be aligned with. You KNOW what you have learned is right. I KNOW what I have learned is right. Joe KNOWS what he has learned is right. And even Sally's dog KNOWS what it has learned is right.

Each of us KNOWS the views of the others are heretical. We are never going to change that.

But, what we DON'T know is that God probably sees ALL OF OUR VIEWS as heretical to His intended message.

The only solution to this sort of thing (that we are willing to accept) is to stick with our own kind.... and thus perpetuate Denominationalism.

Yes, of course we all try to fool ourselves into believing that it is only WE who have the truth, and perhaps we can get those other Heretics to see it someday. But, we forget to figure in the one thing Jesus told us to drop like a hot potato....... and, that is our personal pride. As long as we hold onto pride, truth is likely going to be hidden from us.

Thanks for your reply. I understand what you are saying, that truth is subjective. However the Bible teaches truth is found through the word of God not our own views. I do not put my own spin on scriptures to justify my sins or my political views.

Sadly, yes you do..... Maybe not for the specific reasons you just stated, but for other reasons you might not even recognize. And so do I. And so do the members of the Westboro Baptist church, and so does every single person on this forum.... on this Earth, in fact. Truth is not subjective, but unfortunately our interpretations of it are. It is inescapable.... until we are transformed to truly be like He is. And that ain't gonna happen in this lifetime.

I am thankful you had the discernment to see the error. I bet you are thankful as well. No, you haven't lost your mind, God keeps your heart and mind; Philippians 4:7, so remember that as well as being thankful. There are many who are deceived by that false gospel of covetous idolatry, but God has spared you from that snare of Satan; 1 Timothy 6:9.

Just as God is leading you out of this, He will lead you into a solid church. Trust Him, He is at work in your life, and suffering for the truth is part of that journey; Philippians 1:29; 2 Timothy 3:12.

And remember, you are not alone, He is with you and there are good people here immersed in sound doctrine who will help you and stand with you. God bless!

Never claimed to know you "buddy" . You came on asking for help and I gave my best answer with the information given. So perhaps it was my mistake for believing you to be mature enough to recognize and appreciate that, even if you disagree or if I misunderstood something.
I did not say you were comparing your problems. Where did I say you were doing that? Good luck showing me, because it never happened.

But regardless of what you've been through it doesn't change my answer.

Lastly no one said to put your spin on scripture. Seems you are guilty of not reading what was spoken to you clearly. Perhaps it's hard to read others responses up there on that tall horse. But worry not, if I see your requesting help again I will be sure not to throw pearls before swine. Especially since you've misread two statements from two people whole criticinzng people attempting to help. Your true colors have shined brightly. Thanks for the early warning about your character.

Well, God does promise to for us abundantly... unless of course that's all someone is wanting and trying to walk in without putting their personal relationship with the Lord first.

Prosperity itself is not necessarily wrong unless one makes an idol out of it... lots of folks makes idols out of all sorts of stuff.

Troll? Rockrz simply asked you to give us a break, and divide your text into more readable segments. If that upsets you, then I can guarantee you that you will not long find this forum a place you can handle.

The problem I have with the prosperity gospel is that it teaches give the preacher money and you will get money. Listening to it reminds me of used car salesman. I do believe in tithing and offerings however I don't believe this type of give so you get is God's will for his church. They preach getting rich when we need to focus on getting right with God.

Kim,

You are not alone.

I understand what you are saying. And, I know it "hurts" to see these things happening.

Remember that the scriptures prophesy a "falling away" to occur before Christ returns.

The best [ practical ] thing you can do is to seek out like-minded Christians...

I know it is difficult. Ask God to help you find the 'right' church.

Above all, hold onto your faith in God / Jesus.
