I saw a recent news article stating that the Church of Scotland will allow it's congregations to decide whether to allow gay and women clergy or not. BBC News - Church of Scotland General Assembly votes to allow gay ministers

I understand the debate over women in the clergy and see both sides of the debate. I do not, however, understand the debate over gay clergy.

What is the biblical basis for allowing gay clergy?

How does one reconcile allowing openly gay clergymen with the various scripture references stating that homosexual acts are sin and that the sexually immoral (a term which I think includes homosexuals) will not inherit the kingdom of God (Lev. 18:22, Rom. 1:27, 1 Cor. 6:9, 1 Tim. 1:10, Gal. 5:19, Rev. 21:8, Rev. 22:15)?

I sincerely want to understand this matter from a biblical perspective and do not mean to offend anyone.

I heard on the news this evening, here in Scotland, that a descion is not made yet and there are major debates and emotion Is running high at the General Assembly....but, it is expected to change and become acceptable. The reason being that 'times have changed' and people's understanding in our more educated, modern times need to ' move with the times'. <><

Well being gay is a sin like anyother an every christian still sins some even pastors so i suppose i coulr see a gay person being a pastor but at the same time the bible says teachers will be held to a higherstanderd so if one where goin to be a pastor id think he would need to be in the proccess of riding himself of the sin.

There is nothing more to understand. You had it right with the scriptures you provided about homosexuality.
If GOD says it won't be allowed in heaven then we here on earth shouldn't allow it in the minister position at a church.
That is messing with FIRE.

I often think churches do this kind of thing to raise numbers.

Church of Scotland has been heading this way for quite some time...it's very sad. I left 2 years ago, the minister informed the congregation God is Love, therefore all is love......etc,etc. C of S has some good churches but is largely apostate and many say this will now further destroy any unity that remains. <><

Truth does not change. It is eternal. Times change and people change, but the Truth does not.

"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." Romans 12:2

I think the concept of gay clergy is so wrong. We have gay marriage here in Canada, and one apostate church in my community has a gay minister who is living with his "husband." Brain washing in the media is part of the issue. The other is ignorance of the Bible, or not believing the Bible.

I know with the apostate church here, the believing Christians were forced to leave. I have several friends still in this denomination, and when I asked them about it, they said "The denomination got rid of the trouble makers!"

So believing the Bible now means you are a trouble maker. That is a very sad indictment of our society.

So are you saying then that even in a billion billion billion years, God will still think that 'hate the sin/love the sinner' is a fair way to go about dealing with homosexuals?

Seriously though, holding onto ideals and customs from thousands of years ago is fine, it's when you start limiting the basic human rights of others that your 'trouble' becomes my 'trouble'.

That's why I prefer to just be a member of the body of Christ.

It always rubs me wrong whenever the political-unbelieving-loud mouth factions have their way in the local churches.

There wont be homosexuals in heaven so it is a moot point.

It is not good news because it goes against scripture.
It’s strange how most of the violent and hateful verses are apparently “taken out of context” but the anti-gay verses are apparently still 100% true. I am a generous person so I will provide you with some cream to go with the cherries you pick.

The Bible is either all God's word or none of it is.
