This is going to sound REALLY stupid, but I'm going to tell y'all anyway.

I've always wanted a tattoo. I think they're cool and some of them are wonderful works of art. There was a documentary on the history channel about tattoos, so I watched. It NEVER occurred to me that people bleed while getting inked. And it never occurred to me that you're repeatedly stabbed to put the ink under the surface of the skin. lol, I'm really bright, aren't I?

Therefore, I highly doubt I'll ever get a tattoo. I'm a big baby.

I too love tattoos but I will never survive the pain or blood which is why I just get the 'fake' ones that I have on my hands <---- works for me because I get bored easily so I can always replace it with a new one to keep myself 'entertained' (for want of a better word) with my 'tattoo' haha

I didn't think my tattoo hurt that badly, but when I know pain is coming and I'm bringing it on myself, I can handle it/push through it, and also mine's pretty small. Something bigger probably would have hurt a lot more. It felt like someone taking a pen and pushing really hard into my skin and dragging it. So...not pleasant, but I thought it was bearable for the tiny thing that it was. :p

I've never had a tattoo, but I had my tounge pierced once. Everyone told me it didn't hurt that bad....what a load of bull. lol, I couldn't talk right for a week and I was living on milkshakes. It hurt extremely. I lost the top piece to my ring and got a new one the week after but it had already healed up. I may get it redone at some point but I'm in no hurry.

Ms Rachelsedge: Yes, for many Christians, having it done is something that is for them something that is well worth the discomfort because having a modest and tasteful faith based tattoo is regarded by those that do it as something that's really, really worthwhile and personally meaningful for testimony reasons.

Blessings.

It's certainly a very popular piercing. I think you also said you as a guy had had both ears done.

Blessings.

Your post made me laugh. :) After having read how awful it hurt etc. then you say that you may get it redone. I think not. Reading about your experience alone would keep me away from getting it done ( though I wasn't interested to begin with).

I can't be trusted getting a tattoo. I'd end up looking like Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue after a few years. There's no way I could stop at 1. Plus who's got that kind of spare money? Tats are expensive.
I used to have 3 silver hoop earrings in my left ear,up until (at that time) my nearly 50 lb Olde English Bulldogge got his little puppy claws hooked in them when I had him over my shoulder, and when I went to put him down I didn't realize until it was too late & he was sorta dangling from my lobe. Not fun. Part of one hoop snapped off ,which I had to dig out. After all that healed,I just never bothered reopening the holes.

Well, I've made it this long without a tattoo; I think I can make it the rest of the way without one. :) I don't think I even have to mention the tongue thing... but thats just me. :) :)

I liked it though, and it has it's perks. It's not a common piercing for men where I live and there's always a girl around that thinks "I wonder what it's like to kiss a guy with a tounge ring" :p.

True!

There are many documentaries and TV shows about tattoos these days, it seems. Personally I think there is quite some potential for faith based designs to be used by Christians as a witness.

never could get into the whole tattoo or put hanging chunks of metal thing.

I do find the people with chunks of metal hanging all over them kinda amusing.. makes for a nice target to rip out in a fight.

My middle school and high school years had the occasional spurts of brutal violence. Worst one I ever seen, was a girl walked up to my table at lunch, asked someone if they were done with their tray.....dumped the food out on the table, and turned around and broke it over another girls head. A piece of it got stuck in her head and she had to go to the hospital. The girl fights were waaaay more vicious than the guy fights.

Guys didn't really fight in my school so much. But girls....

Routinely saw heads slammed into lockers, clawing, screaming and gouging. It was really bad.

hahah wow, we would have gotten expelled for that. You got suspended at my school for being 'rude' to other people, so fights... would have gotten you kicked out.

Oh she did get expelled, a regular fist fight was no big deal but what she did....ya, definitely expelled.

That's probably the main reason that I haven't gotten a tattoo yet. It would be scripture or scripturally based. But I cannot have visible tattoos in the line of work I am in, and I don't want to limit my wardrobe to just long sleeves and pants. So I am left with real estate in proximity to places that would seem irreverent to put the name of a Deity. I may get a cross on my shoulder blade, but that's about my only option.
...
The placement you mention is certainly a widely chosen one, and plenty of people sometimes wear sleeveless tops and shirts, so it wouldn't look remotely unusual; placement is just one aspect, of course; selecting the particular faith based design is another; plus having a parlor that you trust, so it's worth planning very carefully and not remotely rushing into it.

Blessings.
