This is a great post Dan for people to read if they are just dealing with themselves!
But I guess I was speaking more to those who love God and are yet bound with these curses.
What makes them so hard is many or most cases, are, they don't realize them to be generational curses!

These curses are so embedded into these peoples lives, that to them it's a natural part of who they are.
This makes it exponentially harder, where you must spend some genuine time with people;
to help them feather out what curse or curses they are dealing with, if any?!

Sure, sometimes it's more simple as some in here are suggesting;
but since you are always dealing with demons of some sort some times it's not so easy!
Even when people tell you that they want to be delivered, that is not always the case!

Great thread Dan!
just some of my thoughts
Most seasoned Christians are reluctant to accept new information. Being skeptical can be a very good thing, but it can also hinder a deeper understanding of scripture. Honestly, we should all be somewhat skeptical of new info, but some Christians error when they outright become dismissive of all new information.

Generational curses from God are stated plainly in scripture, yet some will not even accept this. They have a view of God who is all loving, kind and gentle. They can't understand or accept how God hates sin with a passion, becomes jealous when we turn our attention to idols and punishes the unrepentant, even with numerous examples in scripture.

The curse is abolished in the new creation as Christ bore the CURSE.

If all(?) curses are abolished at the cross then please explain why God killed Jezebels Children?
20But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants[SUP]c[/SUP] to practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols. 21I gave her time to repent, but she refuses to repent of her sexual immorality. 22Behold, I will throw her onto a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her I will throw into great tribulation, unless they repent of her works, 23and I will strike her children dead. Some time ago, I had an old testament topic about an Old Testament generational curse and it instant triggered a debate on this topic. First look at this scripture which details what a generational curse is in the Old Testament.

Does God still do this today? I think he does and here is New Testament proof:

For this "Jezebel, God:
1) Throws her on a bed of affliction.
2) Brings great tribulation on those who sin with her.
3) Will strike her children dead.

The only way out of this God given curse is to "...repent of her works".
Revelation is symbolic, so it is not literal Jezebel who died many years before John wrote this, so it is not literal children.

Exodus 20:5

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

5 You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,

So it is clear from scripture (not my opinion, but God's word) that God does in fact punish the children for some sins the parents commit. Adam's sin has fallen on to all of his children. The guilt of Adam lie's purely on Adam, but the consequences of that sin has fallen to all of his children. Right?

Notice the text says of those who hate me that means the third and fourth generation also hate him

Jezebel died back in the OT. So this NT mention of her must be an entity or concept. Not an actual person that still has actual children.

James 1:14-15
[SUP]14 [/SUP]But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
[SUP]15 [/SUP]Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Lusts children are sin. Sin brings forth death.

Revelations 2:20-23 is talking about a specific sin, or group of sins, categerized by the Jezebel spirit. Its saying pretty much the same thing as James 1:14-15 just using picture language.

He punishes unto the 3rd and 4th generation,
we see this without question, in every day life.
if the parents are irresponsible-alcoholics-devil-worshippers,,,,,,
the offspring are very likely to learn some of their behaviours.

like another poster said, 'it is the natural consequence of sin.'

BUT,
God's LOVE is so much greater,
Deut.7:9.
Therefore know that The Lord your God, He is God,
the Faithful God who KEEPS covenant and mercy for
a 1000 GENERATIONS with those who LOVE Him and KEEP His Commandments;...
and He REPAYS those who HATE Him to their face, to destroy them.

in Revelation in the jezebel chapter,
this is obviously a REAL person, she calls herself a prophetess,
who teaches and seduces persons into 'idolatry.
we've ALL encountered her/him.

more maligning of God's character.

Jeremiah 31:29
In those days they shall no longer say: “‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge.’

what "in those days"? do you know?

Ezekiel 18:20 The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.

Ezekiel 18
The word of the Lord came to me: “What do you mean by repeating this proverb concerning the land of Israel, ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge’? As I live, declares the Lord God, this proverb shall no more be used by you in Israel. Behold, all souls are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is mine: the soul who sins shall die. “If a man is righteous and does what is just and right...

2 Chronicles 25:4
But he did not put their children to death, according to what is written in the Law, in the Book of Moses, where the Lord commanded, “Fathers shall not die because of their children, nor children die because of their fathers, but each one shall die for his own sin.”

And the children’s teeth are set on edge’?

3 “As I live,” says the Lord God, “you shall no longer use this proverb in Israel.
We have to read the entire chapter to get the context. Other passages witness to it as well.

Ezekiel 18:1 The word of the LORD came unto me again, saying,
Ezekiel 18:2 What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge?
Ezekiel 18:3 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.
Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Ezekiel 18:5 But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,

Ezekiel 18:6 And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour's wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman,
Ezekiel 18:7 And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;
Ezekiel 18:8 He that hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man,
Ezekiel 18:9 Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord GOD.
Ezekiel 18:10 If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things,
Ezekiel 18:11 And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour's wife,
Ezekiel 18:12 Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,
Ezekiel 18:13 Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.

Ezekiel 18:14 Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father's sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,
Ezekiel 18:15 That hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbour's wife,
Ezekiel 18:16 Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,
Ezekiel 18:17 That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.

Ezekiel 18:18 As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.
Ezekiel 18:19 Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.
Ezekiel 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
Ezekiel 18:21 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
Ezekiel 18:22 All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.
Ezekiel 18:23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?
Ezekiel 18:24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
Ezekiel 18:25 Yet ye say, The way of the LORD is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?
Ezekiel 18:26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.
Ezekiel 18:27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.

Ezekiel 18:28 Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
Ezekiel 18:29 Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the LORD is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?
Ezekiel 18:30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.
Ezekiel 18:31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
Ezekiel 18:32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.

The entire chapter explains it.

There are many examples in the scriptures of kings who lived wickedly. Some of the sons who preceded them did not do the same as their fathers, and some continued in those ways.

Ezekiel 18:31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

Jeremiah 31:29
In those days they shall no longer say: “‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge.’
Jeremiah 31:30 But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.
Jeremiah 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Jeremiah 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
Jeremiah 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Hebrews 10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
Hebrews 10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

Romans 2:12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
Romans 2:13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
Romans 2:14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
Romans 2:15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;
Romans 2:16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.
Romans 2:17 Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,
Romans 2:18 And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;
Romans 2:19 And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,
Romans 2:20 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.
Romans 2:21 Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?
Romans 2:22 Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?

Romans 15:21 But as it is written, To whom he was not spoken of, they shall see: and they that have not heard shall understand.

In Christ sin is overcome. By abiding in HIM and walking by the spirit and not the flesh.
Those who are not in Christ cannot truly overcome sin. It's only in HIM, by HIM and through HIM that we can be overcomers. I personally can see how sin can be passed down generationally, without HIM.

Alcoholism, is one example. But many who have accepted Christ have been set free from that. I've read many testimonies of people being set free from many different types of addictions, anger, resentment...and on and on.

Each of us are responsible for our own actions and even the words that we speak. When we stand before HIM we won't have any excuses for our own sins, our own actions or our own words. We can't point to others, not even to say that we were taught wrongly. That will not be an acceptable excuse.

Acts 17:28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
Acts 17:29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.
Acts 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
Acts 17:31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

Yes! I have dwelt with them in many people, but they are deep seated and hard to deal with.
Much prayer is needed, waiting on the Holy Spirit to reveal somethings is a must!

This can be a very violent thing to deal with because it is so embedded in ones soul and being.
Yes prayer, repenting, asking forgiveness from the place in which it came from,
and agreement in casting it out.

Many say Christians cannot have such a curse, but this is something in the realm of our fallen soul so they are wrong. In fact it could be one of the greatest ills in the church today!
just some of my thoughts
No generational curse stands in the Presence of God.
When a person comes to Christ, all curses are broken...
The only unpardonable sin is Blaspheming against the Holy Spirit or Grieving it.
Nothing else, rest is all our lack of Faith.

i would say the rest is superstition and an unhealthy focus on the demonic.

The curse is abolished in the new creation as Christ bore the CURSE.
Through Christ we are each able to offset generational curses. A lot of posters are quoting scripture as if it is simply something apart from us, not something to live. If we don't see it in our everyday living, it doesn't mean what it should to us.

I taught my children about generational curses as soon as they were adult enough to handle it. I explained that everyone inherited attitudes and tendencies, some of them were not what Christ wanted for us. So always, they were to follow Christ not me, I was only used by God to help guide them to Christ.

This "Jezebel" is a real person because she:
1) Prophesies falsely
2) Involved with sexual immorality
3) Others are following her in her sin
4) She has children
5) God placed her on the bed of affliction
6) God wants her to repent

So clearly this is a person. The fact she is referred to as Jezebel may mean:

1) Her name is literally Jezebel
2) God is referring to her as Jezebel because she has something in common with the original Jezebel.

18 The word of the Lord came to me again, saying, 2 “What do you mean when you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying:

‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes,
And the children’s teeth are set on edge’?

3 “As I live,” says the Lord God, “you shall no longer use this proverb in Israel.

Sorry, but I don't understand your post.

I agree with what you have said above. I just wanted to add that a generational curse comes directly from God, so it is more than children who have learned bad things from their parents. The scripture below illustrates that children can be punished for their parents sin.

Our fathers sinned, and are no more;
It is we who have borne their iniquities.
Lam. 5:7

Sorry, but I don't understand your post.
sorry about that. the jews had a proverb saying ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes,And the children’s teeth are set on edge"

this is a way of saying the son bears the guilt of his father's sin, or said another way, is cursed due to his father's sin. the generational curse idea.
