In the new testament saved means to protect from being killed.
"And ye shall be hated of all
men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be
saved (kept from being killed) ." -Matthew 10:22.
"When his disciples heard
it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be
saved (kept from being killed) ?" -Matthew 19:25.
"But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be
saved (kept from being killed) ." -Matthew 24:13.
"And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be
saved (kept from being killed) : but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened." -Matthew 24:22.
"He
saved (kept from being killed) others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him." -Matthew 27:42.
"And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be
saved (kept from being killed) ?" -Mark 10:26.
