Simona, if your church is the one, true church, why are some of its beliefs not biblically sound? That raises alarm bells.

In my church, music is only vocal, not instrumental. Also, the way we relate to music is not that 'music is music'. Music, regardless of its lyrics, can be aggressive, lascivious, worldly. We do not have beat in the music, precisely to not make you nod your head, beat the rhythm with your finger or foot, dance etc.
Also, the music in church is the expression of the christian theology and not expression of subjective feelings that one may have about God.

Here are the lyrics in English:

LORD, I Have Cried Out Unto You: hear me! Hear me, O Lord!
Lord, I Have Cried Out Unto You: hear me! Receive the voice of my prayer!
When I call upon You, hear me, O Lord!
Let my prayer arise in Your sight as incense,
And let the lifting up of my hands be an evening sacrifice.
Hear me, O Lord!

I have to agree with everything except the part about music. People seem to think that "real gospel" is the first worship music. The original. It's not, not by a long shot. Christian music in the 1800s was INCREDIBLY different (and probably seemed heretical) from the Christian music of the 1500s, which was INCREDIBLY different (and probably seemed heretical) from the music of the 1200s.

Music has been evolving ever since we started playing/singing. Not to mention the various styles of WORLD music that has also existed and evolved. Which world style are you talking about being the right one? Merica's? Are we supposed to be singing Jewish gospel songs? Middle-Eastern styles with Sitars and long-winded sentences?

Music is music. Christianity didn't even start CLOSE to America or a Western-influenced music style such as the ones Christians are supposed to be "going back to because today's music is too heretical". Original worship music probably sounded almost identical to the styles of songs that Muslims often perform.
This is an excellent point.

It wouldn't surprise me if the westerners would invent such a device; it would surely attract a lot of new adepts. People feel comfort in noise (no matter the volume); silence scare them because its heavy and hard. Man would do anything to avoid himself.
The fact that you keep mentioning "westerners" I get the feeling you are basing this more on a prejudice for westerners than a godly concern for Christianity today.
I mean, I go to an acapella church. Our music is never "loud". Even I am disturbed by your comments.

I apologize. I admit to have developed an obsessive aversion against the western theology and philosophy. The aversion is against a concept, not against the westerners; they are created in the image and likeness of God and God is alive, not dead! You understand? God is not dead, in a tomb like in that painting of Hans Holbein, but He is truly risen!

Please, dear colleagues of forum, forgive me for having upset you and disturbed you with my words.
I will add some silence to my comments.
Again, forgive me, please!

How wicked you are to not play boring old hymns from the 1800's...
These "boring old hymns" leave the modern worship and praise songs FAR behind in their spirituality and truth content!

The "modern" hymn writers are quite often spiritually immature babes in Christ that their efforts in (trying to) writing Christian music pieces are woefully inadequate!

I suggest you go and take a LONG hard look and listen to these "boring old hymns" that you so readily slag off!

DON'T THROW THE BABY OUT WITH THE BATH WATER!

Thankfully I listen to both modern and old because they're equally amazing in composition. For example, this is a song from the modern rock band Soul Junk

Father, You alone are holy
Full of majesty and grace
Purify your church
So we can worship You in spirit
So we can worship You in truth
Jesus, You alone are worthy
You have made us one with God
Come renew our hearts
So we can feel Your resurrection power transforming all our lives
So we can sing & dance & lift Your praise
Free of idols
Free of blame
Free of sin
Free of shame
Free to lift your Your holy name Lord

I agree though, the hymns of the past are amazing! We should not neglect their beauty and truth! However let's not forget that the same God who moved in the believers of the past still moves in men to this day, inspiring them to create works of beautiful art his name

I've been visiting a church I newly attend to. For some reason, there are times I feel like I'm in a concert or in a movies house. I'm not sure if its right to feel that way.

What if I told you that many times in the scriptures, righteous men of God could barely feel God's presence even while they were doing no wrong? Examples of this are Paul, David, and amazingly our Lord and Saviour Jesus himself. What kept them moving forward though? The trusting of God that he was with them no matter where they went. I hope this helps a little to understand that.

if you are a professional singer and that concerned with your voice and vocal performance, then perhaps you shouldn't be in a position of worship leadership or part of any worship or performance. i would consider that almost a conflict with worship. worship is a time of focusing on God, in loving submission, and communion with God, not climbing halfway up the mountain so that you can mindfully reserve your offering.

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, forGod loves a cheerful giver. 2 corinthians 9:7

Honor the Lord with your wealthand with the firstfruits of all your produce proverbs 3:9

honestly, when i am worshiping, the very last thing on my mind is preserving my vocal cords--worship, in my opinion, shouldn't be organized, chosen, or designed to facilitate the health of the worship team's (or any worshippers) vocal cords.
So, you think you should just be irresponsible to your own vocal mechanism, not to mention the health of the congregation? And you would rather ruin yours (and other's) voices for the sake of worship? I seriously don't think God wants us to do that. Then you would no longer be able to sing to the Lord. Take care of your voice now, and you'll still have it when you're 95. Ruin it now, and you'll have no way to sing God's praises when you're 40. You really think God wants us to be irresponsible with our bodies?

And being a professional musician somehow negates my ability to worship? Do you not know there were professional musicians in the OT temple? You think that since I am responsible with my voice somehow I can't worship with my whole heart? That's a pretty arrogant and judgmental statement. You think that just because I use my voice in a healthful manner, I'm not giving my all in all to God during worship. Wow. That's some statement.
